FEBRUARY Hatch-A-Long, come join in!!

I have 35 due on 23rd .. all in-house produced, so it will be very interesting to see the first production from my flock

Okay so today was really day 21 and yes I do believe I locked down too early, I don't know if that had an effect on the hatch but right know out of 7 eggs I have two very cute Olive Eggers, one who is a splash and on who appears to have wheaten on it. I have one Freedom Ranger/ FBCM coming out of its egg. Thought I have a fourth pip, but with the two rolling everyone around it hard to tell. I will try to get a good pic of new kids to post.

What a wonderful day also the snow is finally melting and the sun is shinning.

Update the FR/FBCM has came out and boy are its feet big and not feathered.

Too many babies to get an accurate count. I tried counting open eggs and then subtracting, but so much is rolling everywhere, it's hard to tell. I think there are 10 or 12!

I only did 12 eggs, the seven in there now and 5 faverolles eggs all where clear at 10 days. Alls looking good in there 4 eggs left 2 are pipped and 2 ? due too all the rolling around.

We had 4 hatch out of 11 but only 2 are still alive. Their brooder temp is perfect, but they seem listless and unhealthy. The only 2 surviving chicks are sebright mixes and it's like trying to care for baby birds. Learned a lot this hatch, though, and I am sure the next one will be better.

ETA: Update - They were listless because our piece of junk cheapo thermometer was reading incorrectly. We put in the digital thermometer and were able to get a correct reading--it was way too high. We adjusted, and the chicks perked right up and have not stopped peeping now for more than 10 minutes at a time in the last 4 hours. Yay!

I have 8 due today I hope and one that just hatched 10 minutes ago!!! They are red sex links. This one just could not wait to get out of that egg! S/he had pipped a hole in the egg. I left the house for an hour and a half, when I came home it was half unzipped. Then I swear it just decided, enough was enough and it exploded out of the egg! Then if that wasn't enough, it laid there for a moment and kicked the rest half way across the incubator. Clearly it was tired of that egg. Unfortunately I tried the toilet paper roll technique that was talked about here the other day. I did it because I live in an extremely old house with lopsided floors. I was tired of the eggs rolling around when I tried to turn them. The roll worked at first but then it was caught around the chicks bum and under his/her wings. I must confess I opened the bator for at most 2 seconds. I opened it, pulled the ring off, shut it. Humidity appears to be the same and I think we're alright. I have one more pipping right now!

about 30 out of 50 bobwhites,hatched out.Mail order eggs... And now a couple hundred 'popcorn chickens"(my daughters name for quail) 'popping' out....lol...

One of mine pipped hours ago and I have since seen no movement. The membrane doesn't look as if it's broken but the egg shell did. I have six others with no activity as of yet but it's only 2 PM on their official hatch day.

We did some serious candeling last night and I could finally see all the veins that people say they see and I never do I am happy to say all my Aruacanas are fertile. 18 out 18 fertile eggs. I hope all hatch and are all hens now.

. So begins the tedious job of waiting and waiting and waiting and ...

I ended up with 13 sweet little valentines in my bator. Ohh those poor babies were in lockdown for over a week with no egg turning and high humidity LOL! I have some more pipping so hopefully more will hatch today.​
