First of the year and first ever Araucana hatchling at Awakening Forest. I just started with these guys and they are a lot of trouble.

But here we are with a tiny little peep and it’s all about love ❤💕 :loveView attachment 2547154
Well wrong incubator. Still swaddled in love but this is a Cream Legbar and looks to be a pullet so a double celebration after a failed identification. First peep of the year is a pullet 💕❤️🙏

I got 12 mixed eggs from Greenfire Farms, 1 wasn't fertile. I added 2 of my Maran eggs in case some didn't hatch. But today was hatch day and all 13 eggs hatched! I'll get a picture later when they are all fluffed up. 2 Blue Marans (mine), 2 Queen Silvia, 3 Female Crested Cream Legbars, 2 Freisan Gull and 4 White Marans. 😊

I’m in the process of hatching my 2nd batch this month. First batch only 3/12 hatched and 1 of those failed to thrive and died at 1 week. The farmer I bought my eggs from gave me another 18 that he was confiscating from a broody hen. He was going to destroy them if I didn’t take them. I’ve disposed of 3 - 1 early quitter, 1 never developed and 1 looked to be fully developed when I got them home but had no visible veins and didn’t hatch.
Because the broody was stealing eggs from other hens, the eggs are all at different stages of incubation. 4 have hatched already and are living happily with the 2 week olds from my earlier hatch.
And another has pipped today. I’m in Australia, it is 5:50pm February 28. I’m wondering if the 5th will be a Feb hatch or March 🙂

So I ended up with a 10% hatch rate for this hatch here the last day of February! This one little cutie is the only one that hatched out of 10 shipped eggs. Only four went to lock down the other three are DIS. My daughter donated one of her stuffed animals for the little to have a friend until she moves over to the bigger chicks. She’s way too small to handle them now. Should be OK in a few days.😊
