They should at that age! How cold is it where you live as at 16 weeks they should be roosting ok without heat, unless you have very cold weather. and if it is real cold then I would raise the lamp high enough so they will roost.

it has been in the single digits bouncing down in the negatives..I was worried they might get frost bite...but we are starting to warm up..I will raise the lamp first then take it away in a week...I thought it was weird its my fault I babied them to much..I'll chalk it up to first time chick mama having chicks in the middle of winter just in time for a polar vortex...lol :)

I kinda thought you were in a cold climate, If it stays really cold I would leave the heat source in there but higher up so they will roost. Good luck, and try to stay warm.

Ok day 14 pictures most I could not get a good camera picture even though I could them pretty good in the ova-scope.
1 egg for sure blood-ring, a few of my dozen shipped eggs were odd-shaped but that is how soo many shipped eggs do. I still keep them to the very end as a few times I dis have one or two hatch but not usually.

Good

Good

Good

Blood Ring I took 2 pictures of this egg and then broke and took two more which will be at the end.

Same Blood Ring egg

One of my shipped eggs others were more disfigured but could not get good picture

Good egg but picture glare so did not show very good on camera

Another shipped egg

This is what I have left most are doing good 4 misshapen shipped eggs on left I marked

Same as above just closer on the eggs that are misshaped

The Blood Ring egg you can see the embryo

Same egg stuff just oozed out soon as I cracked it you can see the embryo

They are quiter than the human yelling "Hey, Mr. Chuckles just peed on me... He f*ing just sprayed all over me" BAHAHAH... so funny to see. I imagine as a victim of Mr. Chuckles I failed to find much humor... Well for a moment but as I stood in the shower began to laugh .... mental note to self cats aren't the only creatures to spray, lesson learned. lolz

I just got a shipment of 12 Ameraucana bantams from Iowa. The temps were low but none of the eggs appear damaged. They're settling right now and I will set them in the 'bator tomorrow.

I am concerned about what to set them in. All I have are some yellow trays that appear to be sized for quail eggs (much too small), or trays sized for standard eggs. I don't want the eggs to jostle when the auto-turner turns them in the big trays. Is it okay to pad them with tissue?
