Well, most of mine have access to four acres. And some to a fenced backyard just shy of 1000 square feet when I turn them out in the evening to scrounge for bugs and other things to interest them.

Mine are still quite young, so they've been staying in their run all day.
Eventually, I would love to let them free range when I'm able to be out there with them.

It has been a while since I had a chicken flock. The last were semi feral. I provided feed ad lib and natural reproduction was successful that every autumn I would send four or five crates of birds to the auction. They were medium sized gamefowl/bantam crosses - primarily BBR in color/type. They sold very well. Cooper's hawks eventually wreaked havoc on the chicks and GHO eliminated the adult birds. My pigeons were never free flown - again eventually the Cooper's hawks put me out of business with them, and I am presently birdless. Predation, especially from raptors, to me is far more of a problem than it was even twenty years ago.

Mostly contained in a run. Usually let out at least once a week to free range sometimes more often but not right now with this heat though if it crosses 100 degree mark I’ll be letting them out to hide in the woods. I’d love to let them be feral or at least only locked up at night but the predators are horrible here.
