Feeding Chicks and Chickens

Quote: Indeed.

Figuring the protein is easy with a chart, tho that doesn't guarantee that the chart levels match the actual grains you are using.
My mill where I get my scratch grains fully admit that....why I use commercial feed for their main nutrition, more likely to meet the label specs with their quality controls.

Okay! Do you have any suggestions on the correct balance of the diet, more precisely? I understand that most organisms, especially us, live better with all the correct balanced diet of proteins, vitamins, minerals, calcium, calories, etc. The same goes for chickens! Oh boy, I need a whole book on a chicken's diet!

That's why commercial feed is a great alternative choice. Does commercial grain packages (for the ingredients of my recipe) state the protein percentages themselves? That is probably more accurate than an average for all wheat, etc, but I just want to make sure if calculating based on the packaging will work better. Thanks!

Here are 3 PDFs... Big ones. ;)

First, needs of chickens.

And just for kicks, a grain ratio comparison...

Sorry if that last one is a cattle link lol; most if my stuff is in "cow" mode, but values are still the same :)

Vitamins!! Need vitamins, energy, fiber, fat, minerals...amino acids. good start in the protein though ;)

Wow! Thanks so much for your support and links! These pdfs hold plenty of information for me to use, and this will help a lot! Thank you so much, shortgrass! I hope others can also make use to your pdfs and receive help from you when reading this thread!

Sure thing! You did say you needed a book lol ;)

I thought you would like it and use it, and am more than happy to share when I find good files :)

Wish you the best of luck and fun learning! :)

I'm very happy with my tried & tested commercial layer feeds...it accounts not only for protein but vitamins, essential minerals, plus pro & pre biotics. Healthy, happy hens....great quality eggs.
