Feeding Dogs!

Now that IS something I worry will shorten my dogs' lives. The sheer amount of vaccinations the vets recommend sure does seem like overkill.
Overreach of government is a problem. Many cities now require yearly vaccinations and tags or they'll take your pet. I don't know where they find all these people who are willing to make all these rules but if you miss one vaccination they're on your back and if they take your pet you won't get it back.

I've always done our own dog nails until the Bassett Hound. He's super long and I cannot hold him and his feet and dremel all at the same time. I've not met a Bassett yet that likes a nail trim. Their nails are like meat cleavers they are so thick. For him, groomer - who he loves - gets him done in 10 minutes and I'm not the bad guy.
I keep my big dog toe nail clippers handy so anytime I see my Basset has a nail getting too long I can clip it off. He doesn't mind me cutting them as long as I only a couple nails at a time(max is 4)He won't let me do the whole paw. It tears my ear drums up when he starts that yelping so I don't let it go that far. A Dremel? No way!

When we lived north, we didn't apply flea/tick either. Even though we lived in the woods, I would perform tick checks nightly and just pick them off. Fleas were never an issue. Here, fleas are atrociously a problem. People let their cats roam the neighborhood all the time, they walk through yards, jump fences - just an all around nuisance. I never understood why people think it's ok to let their cats roam around that way. The vet said, if cats roam through your yard, you will never be rid of fleas.
My cats all have catios with wood, concrete and wire floors so fleas aren't a problem but my dogs are inside outside dogs and get on the ground which causes the problem.

Thank you!! It is such a relief when I see this!
I was going to say something about my cats always eating the whole animal, mice and birds when they get them earlier, but I knew it would upset you😂 They are outside to catch mice. It does me no good to keep them in the house. Is there anything I can do to keep them from getting the birds? I’ve thought about the bell on their collar but, wouldn’t that scare the mice?

They really take them!? Here they just fine you. At least at first. Maybe if you don’t vaccinate them or license them for long enough they might eventually take them, idk. I’ve never tried it 🤣

Well i know earlier this year we were waiting for our appointment and ended up switching vets(the newer vet we will stick with). But we got warning after warning because they were a bit late on their rabies. But that was from the town.

Once they are outside hunters I don't expect people to bring them indoors and keep them there. That would stress out a lot of cats. There is a product called the CatBIB (link in my signature), but I honestly don't know how safe it is to keep on an outdoor cat 24/7.

Once they are outside hunters they stay outside hunters, I'm afraid. I don't expect people to confine their already-outdoor cats. There is a product called the CatBIB (link in my signature), but I honestly don't know how safe it is to keep on an outdoor cat 24/7.
That makes sense. That catbib is really cool! I had never seen it before. Do you think it would impede their ability to run away quickly or up a tree if they had to?
