Feeding Wild Birds

I saw the first red winged black bird at my feeders this morning. I guess that means spring is trying to show up.

This afternoon while I was in the yard I heard a crow screeching, looked up, and saw it chasing and attacking a smallish hawk with light underparts. The hawk had something in its talons but it didn't look like a bird. Maybe the hawk was just too close to the crow's nest.

And then a turkey vulture followed along behind the other two.

Never seen anything like it.

We usually get a couple inches of snow, annually. Not even one snow flake this winter.

Thought that I heard one frog 'croak' while I was at the club. Went to check one of the vernal ponds and found two wood frog egg masses. They started breeding at the same time last year.

Our birds are down also here in S Jersey also, although the Robins have shown up in droves. Fifty to sixty of them working the yard, even Blue Jays have come back after a long absence of yrs. my favorite, Cedar Wax Wing has not been here in 15yrs which is funny when I can hit the Cedar Swamp with with my hat.

Couldn't access the beagle club this morning. There is a dead ash tree down on the power lines blocking the drive. JCP&L just arrived to remove it.
