I'm in desperate need of advice on what to do. My black female indian runner who is about five months old just suddenly fell and her body was STIFF. Her legs were stretched back and her neck was arched backwards. It was a horrible sight! I thought she was dead because she wasn't moving. However, after a few seconds she started to unstiffen, she slowly got her body back into its natural position, and she just sat there on her stomach on the ground while I pet her. She stayed sitting for about 2 minutes and then she stood back up. She seems okay now. This happened just 20 minutes ago. The only difference I noticed in her behavior is she is a tad bit more quiet than usual, but not by much. When I fed her her treats, she was just as excited as ever and ate it all up. Anybody have any idea what's wrong with my poor indian runner? I'm so distressed!

Gosh, that sure does sound like a neurological event...maybe as Wifezilla said, a type of seizure. I've never experienced anything like that. Good sign she recovered quickly and went back to eating! That's a girl after my own heart!

But, honestly, I hope that she is OK!!! Wish I could be of more assistance.

btw guys, the person who posted this is David, and the Duck is Vinny, aka victor and mingmei's little "sister".

As soon as david called me i rushed over to his house to check on Vinny. Vinny seems to be fine now. Here's what I'm guessing happened-

David was waiting for me to bring him over more shavings, and therfore did not have a lot to put a lot down in their pen. Their pen is a wooden box, lined with tiles, that sits inside of a baby play pen. The floor was a bit bare by the waterer, and seems to be where Vinny slipped. I think she hit her head/underside of her beak on the edge of the wood box part. When david found here she was lying on her stomach, feet stretched behind her, and her head all the way tilted back onto her back.

I wonder if the initial hit when she slipped "shocked" her stiff. She was stiff for abut 10 seconds before she "rebooted" herself. I insected her carefully, and didn't see anything. But i did notice that she winced a littl when i touched her neck. She also hesitated t lif her head up for a treat (but she did eventually because she LOVES treats). I also noticed she had some trouble turning her head around to tuck it under her wing, but she was able to after a couple minutes.

David has been giving me updates on poor little vinny, who seems to be doing fine right now. I'll keep you guys updated.

Vinny is doing much better guys. Thank you for your input. It's appreciated. I still cannot be for certain what exactly happened to Vinny, but he seems to be doing better now. Do I have adequate vitamins in the feed nettie?
