Feral Hawaiian chickens laying a dozen eggs a day

They should capitalize on this. Chickens that lay a dozen eggs a day must be worth many thousands of dollars each to the mass production chicken farming industry- they would clone and breed them and do all sorts of bizarre stuff we don't want to know about with their DNA.

This has the potential to solve Hawaii's budget crisis.

people you did not go about this correctly....you should have for just the cost of a round trip ticket and room and board of course...offered to go and correct this problem of theirs it should not have taken say 8-10 of you more than a month or so to teach them how to fix their little problem....course you may have had to go back yearly for refreasher courses at their cost....

My favorite part of the article other than the hens easily laying a dozen eggs daily, was the fact they said that you can get sickness and disease from eating the eggs and meat unless you thoroughly was and cook them. Who in the h-e-double-hockey sticks eats chicken that isnt thoroughly washed and cooked? Are they living like cave people out there without running water and no way to get the meat to 165 degrees? I have a breaking newsflash for this genious: you better be washing and cooking your store bought steroid-ridden frankenchicken meat too. The sad part is that this guy probably paid more for his education than I make in three years. Lets all hope these 4,380 egg laying per year bandits dont ruin the next season of Dog the Bounty Hunter. Now that would be a disaster...

Wonder those that sent email, has anyone hear back from this person.. another thing the lice these birds carry are feather lice , so unless the local people there have feathers, those lice will not bother people.

I got a nice response to the helpful and informative letter I sent to this writer.
"Those are great points, Carol. Thank you for your input, I'll keep it in mind as the story progresses for sure.
Aloha,
Chris"

Read the article again, it really seems that this journalist was simply quoting the spokesperson from their Humane Society, that's the person who needs to be better informed about chickens. I mentioned this forum to the journalist, let's hope they'll log on and find some helpful advice.

Ohh my gosh you beat me! I so was gonna post this. I got home and my mom told me to read it because we have on adopted stray chicken and how their eggs can get you sick. I was like I swear they can only lay an egg every 26 hours or something. Dang natives got their facts wrong.... Gives us Hawaiians bad rep.

Umm. Storebought chicken is not steroid ridden. Their phenomenal growth is due to genetics, not steroids. And you can raise the frankenchickens (Cornish X) yourself if you want to. I do every year.

Sounds to me like some bureaucrat has an agenda and could care less about facts. If I'm wrong I'm flying to hawaii for one uh dem 10 egg a day laying hens!
Oh and that humane society spokesperson.....scary.... wheeewh
