FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

I, and my birds, are pretty happy with the crumbles...made my own waste free feeder, which did reduce amount of feed 'used'.

Hey, do whatever floats your boat, but I think that people here are smart enough to determine if feed reduction is due to less wastage or less feed consumed.

If you haven't tried it, you can go ahead and doubt all you want, but it doesn't add much to the conversation. If you'd tried it and found no reason to continue, that's something to post, as others here have done.

Less water overall... or did that half just go into the ferment bucket?

Obviously they're consuming water from the feed as well. I would have thought it was obvious that the poster meant water consumption from the waterer, which saves time in re-filling if you don't have to do it as often. That off-sets the amount of time taken to FF.

You seem to have an axe to grind against FF even though you haven't tried it. What do you care if people choose to use FF? How does that affect you?

No need to be so defensive @Em Ty geez.
I have no axe to grind, was just pondering and thought this was free and open discussion forum.

Wonders how much the alleged reduction of feed consumption has to do with that the wet stuff doesn't get spilled, billed and scratched out all over...not to mention rodent consumption. Most feeders for dry feed are ridiculously wasteful due to poor design. Just a thought.

aart, you know me better than that! Do you want the links to the scientific studies?

But, the lack of waste has contributed to the lower feed bill for sure. I saw THOSE effects immediately when I started using FF.

Well, our chicks have finally realized that I'm not torturing them by giving them FF rather than dry feed. They all but go into a feeding frenzy when I fill their feeder now haha.

Yeah I've been filling the trough with dry feed on one side and FF on the other for the bantie brooder because I was having a little difficulty with them eating. They're now preferentially going for the FF, so I'll stop filling the dry feed. Now everybody is on FF!

You certainly seemed to be on the offensive against FF so if I seemed to be defensive, that's why. I don't care what you post, but when you take a contrary opinion without any experience and question whether or not people are even smart enough to discern if it's working for them, you should get push back. As you said, I also thought this was a free and open discussion forum. It goes both ways.

I do think that crapping on it when you haven't tried it and say you won't bother, all while questioning if those who like it are capable of making an objective decision isn't helpfull, but by all means, post whatever you want. Expect that others will too.
