FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

It's been over 10 years since I have had the Danes (still not ready yet) so I can't say for sure. All I know is they ate 1/2 of what they would have eaten in dry food per day. Plus less poop and no GAS !
That book is in a lot of Libraries. Good reading all around

Dog food (depending on the brand) is a mixture of plant and animal products (dogs are omnivores, despite what some overpriced DF manufacturers would like you to believe) usually byproducts like organs and things humans would generally not go for. I wouldn't ferment that because 'fermented' meat is generally not good for anything that has not evolved to eat carrion.

Now if you want to give your dog the benefits of FF you could always add some fermented vegetable products alongside his/her normal feed.

You would be better off feeding RAW to the dogs. I did that with my Danes when I had them. Best looking teeth/coat they ever had.

Ya, raw might be nice (I mean it would).. but seems like too much effort for me. Think my dog's might kill each other too.

But using a formulated feed is easy and I don't have to worry about lacking anything, per say. Also, my feed is rice based instead of corn or wheat, and I think that is part of what smells nice in the chicken feed.

But ya, it was almost vomatrotious! :sick

Fermented veggies (or even, bowing to pressure, a tiny bit of the FF) is a great idea for the dogs. They go crazy for scrambled eggs but I pay for it the next day with poo issues... so they only get about a third of an egg perday...they are two pomeranians and a papillon. Tiny. About the same size as the chickens.

they also love homemade yogurt or kefir which is not hard on their digestive systems. More fermentation here! (insert evil laugh...my kitchen is my laboratory).

Vomatrocious...is that a newly coined word? Love it!! lol

Raw feeding dogs is easier and cheaper than commercial foods provided you can access a variety of raw, meaty bones (avoiding weight bearing bones from cows), organs and green tripe from a range of animal sources. Carnivores cannot digest plants because their gut isn't long enough to break down the cellulose. So they eat pre digested greens from their prey's gut (green tripe). I'm lucky enough to have a chain of stores set up by a vet in my area that provides easy access to everything we need to feed our dog a balanced, raw diet.

And the results speak for themselves - clean teeth (with no effort from you), a lot less waste to clean up, shiny, clean smelling coat and a healthy dog. We got a friend's two overweight black labs onto it after they saw how healthy our dog looks/is. They look so good now and the shine on their coats is amazing.

With my FF, once it's fermenting I feed out about 2/3rds, top up the rest with fresh food and water and it's ready by the next day. I don't have the space for multiple buckets to be ticking away. My birds love it.
