So I'm gonna be getting chicks soon and I would like to do the fermented feed. But I'm buying them as layers not meat birds. Is there anything that should be done differently? Just bc the thread is listed as for meat birds.

I have a question that I don't think is worthy of its own thread. I plan on going out of town for a couple of days. I have 3 CX and 7 brahmas that will be 7-weeks old. The CX are about 4lbs--they are a bit slower growing since I only feed them FF 2x a day. Water is not a problem while I'm out of town, but...no one will be around to feed them. I have a feeder that work while I'm gone, and the 7 brahmas will be fine...but I'm worried those 3 CX will eat and eat and eat and eat and then explode. Okay, maybe not explode, but is it too late in the game to have them on a couple days with 24 hour access to food? The bonus of the 48 hour gorging (if their bodies can handle it) is that they'll probably be nice and fat and ready to eat by next weekend!

I do 20% 3xs a day and get 3.5-4.5lb dressed birds on a normal batch of CX by 8 weeks and 5-6.5lbs by 10 weeks.

Currently doing 20% on a slow growing batch and a few are 8lbs live weight right now at 12 weeks I believe they are...have to double check might be older even lol

I tried a week of 24% free game feed I was given and the growth was noticed but so were breathing issues, too big too fast and I had to lower it to let the lungs catch up :) but they all made it. Just monitor them well and you should be fine. You can always dilute the higher percentage too a lil bit if you bought it and notice an adjustment is needed.
So Beekissed let's say I do 22% 3 times a day. What weight can I expect at 12 weeks? How can I calculate this?

My brother used to raise meaties by the hundreds and told us about adding hi calcium milk to their drinking water to help with growth and bone problems.
We raised a batch without the milk and lost 2. Then learned about the milk, we added quarter gallon of skim milk per gallon of water to the second batch and had no loses and they were still running (ok waddling) away from us at week 8 and dressed out at 6 - 8 lbs!
This year we are done 36 in one batch and trying FF, thanks to this site.

Besides doing the ff this time around, are you still going to add the milk to their drinking water?

Lisa :)
