Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Started with ff today. They just got soupy soaked food today, I got a little carried away with the water. I'm using flock raiser crumbles to start. With the plan of transitioning to mixed grain down the line.

Nope! Just ferment feed for layers instead of meat bird feed.

I feed my baby egg chicks FF!

How much feed per day do you measure oz Cups or TBSP per Hen or Chick?
Is overeating a problem?

Awwwwww! They are adorable!!! So sweet....

I saw that gazebo before and I think it would make such an interesting pen for broodies, growing out roosters or for just separating birds for awhile. Such a cute idea....your hubby is something else with his building things.

I built a chick feeder today for the meaties I'm getting tomorrow..just ten of them....it's only a foot and a quarter long but it's going to be perfect for feeding chicks the FF.

I started taking out those stones in the floor of the gazebo today. We had a pretty day with warmth and not gusting winds so I worked on it some. In fact I got about half of it taken out. :) YEA! NEED to move the pile so it wont be in my way of putting up the boards and the wire. Anyway I'm glad I was able to make a little progress.

Bee these little feeders wouldn't be hard to make. Wouldn't need to use pressure treated wood though since it might leach out bad stuff in the food huh? LOVE your little feeder!

Can't wait to see what you make of that gazebo! Will be like a raptor cage.

These kinds of troughs are extremely easy to make....this is how folks used to make hog troughs back in the day and this one is just a tiny version of that. Wish I had made one long ago but just never got around to it. Anyone with scrap lumber, a hand saw and some wood screws or finishing nails can throw one of these together, be it small or large.

I'll take pics of the chicks using it and let folks know if it's working well for them.

OHHHH Bee I forgot to tell you something I did. I pulled a Bee on my chicks.

I told em hey I'm pulling a Bee on y'all. They are getting IN their fermented food bowls and scratching all in it slinging the food all over.I have a stainless steel grill thing that's for inside that was on a little grill that went out. I kept the little grill and am using that to sit their food ON to get it up out of the pine chips. Well they did that slinging mess and it went all under the grill. It was a mess and I had JUST cleaned their pen and put in fresh chips and everything. They're inside for right now. Anyway I took all their food out and the grill and made em clean it up and they did to. Cleaned er right up.

Was a little proud of myself.

I have one of those store bought long feeders that is plastic but it's too long for this little pen they're in right now. When I get them outside it will be perfect and it has a cover over it.

Ok I have got to hit the bed. Really tired tonight from working on the quarantine pen and the gazebo pen to. My sweet nephew gave me another one of those shipping crates so I am fixing it up for a quarantine pen and a broody breaker pen. Got wire in the bottom of it and windows on each side and on the door outta hardware cloth. ALMOST got it painted this evening but it was getting a little dark and I needed to feed the chickens and get them put inside their pen. So I didn't get to finish it. Also gotta make a little door for it to.

Nighty you gals. Got to get in the bed now. :)
