I am going to stop typing now - and start my very first batch of LAB. It is a probiotic, smell killer, soil enhancer, plant friend, animal friend, killer of salmonella and e-coli - the list goes on and on.

How did I get to be 63 years of age and not know about this before now???????????

Can I please thank the original poster of this fantastic bit of invaluable informative video

Very cool video!
thanks for re-posting.

The thing that makes this even better for me is that we are re-siting and re-arranging the run for the girls and we are creating a largish area of soil to scratch around in (bigger than they currently have) - I will be inoculating this soil with the LAB as it goes down a couple of days before the girls are let loose on it- so it can start working immediately on any pee/poo the hens deposit. They currently are on hard ground 60% and soil/natural ground 40% - the new areas will give them 85% natural ground/soil and 15% hard ground. Perfect timing for me to learn about this.

I think the LAB will be my saviour - I am falling in love with those little bacteria

I bought the made up version form Amazon EM-1. Not cheap $35 quart but I've no patience for the other. That quart will last me for over a year. HOWEVER, if you just want this for fermenting your feed (without the gardening) you don't need it. The air makes it. Add water to feed and stir daily for 4-5 days. Oatmeal consistancy. It will ferment for nothing. Cover it with a towel to keep out critters and let air in. Pdirt is the expert on EM-1 and has written a booklet on it. PM him.

How long did it take?  I've also heard you can make it with frozen apple juice.

I'm not real sure. I mixed up 3-4 bottles and set it in the floor and forgot about it. I'd say a month, maybe two. The big scoby surprised me. I don't know what it looks like now... let me go look...

I wonder what that in the vinegar would taste like...? Hmmm, pretty stout I bet.

It's just vinegar. No real difference. Kombucha is not a liquor. Just a portion of a beer. Not much. I've let me kombucha just go this whole winter, because I like fruit in it and didn't have any. Now I could have put stuff like ginger, grapes etc. but I just got lazy I guess and switched back to coke. Kombucha only has like 25 calories a glass and is so good. Made with tea. Got to get on the ball.

How do you do your kombucha? You think one of these from vinegar would work with tea?
