Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Aloha funny ladies,

Let me know if you visit. Sorry I don't leave Hawai'i much. My wife is all over the world though.

Sharks? I have a deal with the sharks. I don't eat them, they don't eat me.

Surfing is like riding a skateboard. If you can ride a skateboard, you can learn to surf.

Body boarding is good for older ladies who can't ride a skateboard.

I do live in the best town on the best Island in the best state in the best country in the world. But then I grew up here.

take care funny ladies, Puhi

I can understand that, if I ever make it to Hawaii I wouldn't leave either.

I like looking at the water, but have no desire to go in it. I can swim and am not afraid of the water like some may think. I don't like the idea of what's in the water w/ me, the big stuff like things that want to hurt or eat me, and more importantly the tiny stuff, pollution, brain eating amebas, the presents people leave in the water, people in the water w/ all kinds of infections. Big water lakes and oceans aren't as disgusting to me (but still don't want in) as little water, pools. And for those of you sitting there thinking to yourselves, but they put chlorine in the pool water to keep it safe, .................................. there is chlorine in my toilet water but I don't stick my head in there either!

Me neither, though there is no chlorine in my toilet water. I've always been afraid of what was under the water and the movie Jaws didn't help any of us with all that. I used to work at the pool when I was a teen and still had a fear of swimming in that thing alone! I just knew some big, grey shape was going to move up out of the deep end and bite my legs off.

I still get an instinctive fear when I enter the water of rivers, ponds, lakes and oceans but I take hold of my fear and talk to it...tell it to get on board or head for the shore because this ol' gal don't mind dying anymore and that's the worst that can happen. I won't live in fear on this Earth, though I wouldn't deliberately bathe with a great white posse waiting for the big, fat slug to be lowered into the water like so much chum!

But swim I will and, if I get the chance, body board I will, snorkel I will and have faith that whatever happens at that point was meant to happen and just ride that wave when I come to it! The ocean is just too much power, beauty and wonderful motion to sit on the shore and gaze upon it. It has a pull to it like the mountains and once I got a look at the ocean and got to swim in it, I was hooked. Nothing quite like it and not to be missed!

So I decided to start my day old that were hatched by broodies on ff. i ferment a variet of whole grains, add in sprouted lentils and then a dry mix of fertrell pnb, fish meal, and calcium. Since the babies can't have "whole grains", I put it all into a little food processor after I mixed it up. The babies are doing great. The oldest 3 are 2 weeks old and I also have 3 more that are just a dew days behind these so I am about to start cutting back on orocessing their feed. The youngest 2 which are just a few days old are out and about with their mom already. So far so good on feeding the babies ff!
Where do you find your fish meal? My feed store guy looked at me like I'd asked for gold plated toilet tissue or something. Let us know how they do! Any pasty butt? I hate when that happens...

Yeah, it's the only thing I miss about San Diego. Warm water on a rare clear day, this glowing little white girl body surfed pretty much all day long in the summer. :) Could do with out the people, the pollution and when it got stormy, 3 and 4 foot "drifts" of seaweed rotting on the beach... BLECH!

It does indeed. I grew up in a town on the Gulf Coast and I've always dearly loved the sea.

my daughter FINALLY talked me into going to the beach a few years ago and now I am totally hooked!! LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Could lay down on the shore line and listen to those waves and litterly fall asleep! lol LOVE IT! And hunting sea shells lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve that to!

I sure didn't think mine would ever come around either but he sure has which blew me away when he just kept on asking to help tend to them. :D  I'm just glad he did because it gives me a break sometimes to do other things I need to be doing.

I believe my man would qualify as a workaholic. If it isn't working, making money, eating or sleeping he hasn't got a whole lot of time for it. I'm probably lucky that I get to interfere in all of that as much as I do. Work is great, but dang! But I wouldn't want one of those with velcro on his hiney either. lol

Aloha Puhi! :)

I can't imagine waking up every day in that beautiful place! Maybe one of these days I'll get there and I'll be sure to give you a holler. If Bee comes with me I'll be sure to give you a WARNING! LOL No doubt. I would stick with the body boarding. But those sharks are pretty scary! I would also have to go watch Gilad do his thing! Oh my! Ladies, Google "Gilad". Hawaii is a beautiful place! LOL

Take care!

I'm jealous of all you guys growing up near the ocean! :) I have ALWAYS loved the ocean and beaches (minus the people). I think maybe I watched too much Gilligan's Island or something because the thought of getting marooned on a beautiful deserted island sounds great to me! I never understood why they worked so hard trying to leave. lol

Me too! I also like getting to the beach first thing in the morning and finding what the tides brought in...I'm nosy that way.

I like how light I feel in the water and I love the feel of it on my skin, love the light sparkling off it, love the sound of it. I like tropical ocean best because the water is so crystal clear all around the beaches and it gives one a chance to see the ocean floor.

Aloha Puhi!

Willow and Bee's Great Aloha Adventure...I can see the movie version of it now....

Everyone would soon turn off Duck Dynasty to watch our TV spin off of it all. First season shows Bee culling all the wild chickens on the island to improve laying performance and meaty build, but leaves their natural hardiness and foraging skills alone. Willow adds taro root to her ferment bucket to see what happens and demonstrates The Judge on sharks...stay tuned!

Season Finale episode shows Bee wrestling with sharks as Willow takes bets from islanders on who will win....sends Bee's one arm home to her family as the only part they found after it was all over. Family refuses to pay shipping costs.

Hello, I've just ordered my first 15 meaties. They should arrive here on Thursday of this week. My layer pullets are fed ff. So I know that I need to get the chick starter going on fermenting. A question I have is do I leave the ff down all day for the for the first couple of weeks? Like I would for dry. Then go to a 2x feeding after a couple of weeks? Also do I still go by the rule of what they can eat in 15 min or so? Thanks for the help!
