I think winter is a love/hate affair. I never minded going out to get the wood for the fireplace or shoveling a path for my dogs and cat. It got me outdoors. It is when the sun doesn't shine and you can't get out, I go bonkers. Get your potatoes ready. Nothing better than baked potatoes in the fireplace.

We are going to get down to 38 degrees for the next two nights. Just good old coffee weather!

YEs definitely coffee weather!! I've gone cowboy style: toss in grounds , fill with water and put on the stove. Both my kids will drink it too. People give me funny looks when they see my 10/11 yeear olds drinking coffee. Less sugar than a coke. ANd they enjoy it as much as I do.

Its a cold 27 degrees here with about 6 inches of snow, the sun was just out and it looks so pretty on the snow.

. They are saying 60 by the end of the week. Our wx here is always changing

After coming out for some scratch earlier girls are back in the coop. Stella the BR is not impressed with the cold it seems. She is all poofed up telling me she is not impressed. It is kind of funny to see her breath come out so you can see it, I am sure they will venture out once they realize I put suet out in run for them. Or later when I feed them outside.

YaY! So pretty!I love the way everything looks all blanketed with snow. Your girls look great...the look on Stella's face gives the impression that she is a little miffed lol Thanks for posting some pics!!!

I think she is a little miffed as well. It's the tots first winter so they need to get use the snow. I have no doubt when I head out later to feed them she will brave the snow. I am going to feed them outside as long as I can. She is all about food lol. I forgive her since she is the only one laying daily all the others are moulting

On one hand, I'm SO jealous of the cold, snow and fires. But then again, I get to go sit on my back porch in a t-shirt and watch my green grass grow, my rabbits forage and hear the flocking clicking in their run. We have a few more weeks to be fire-friendly.

Yes, my flock are a bunch of addicts, too. By the time they are done, they look like they swallowed an ostrich egg! I am just starting to grow a pasture mix in my yard, though, so they should be mighty happy to be free in a few more weeks.

Yeah me too. Here in Texas no problems with snow, power outages, or any of those terrors; but their tales of lock downs with the fireplace roaring, board games, etc. sounds really good. Some of that old fashioned family togetherness that is so lacking in most families today.
I have a side yard I want to fence off and plant with something for the chickens that I don't have to weed and fertilize---just for them. What are you planning to plant?? THX : )

Let me just ask a question here... I don't hear anybody saying anything about adding yeast.

Doesn't the feed just "rot", otherwise, in lieu of fermentation?

I'm getting ready for Spring, no new chickie-boos yet.

No yeast for me. Only added H2O
