Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Nuh-unh, TW...she's got to go through WV to get to your place, so she can visit here first!

I've got so many things to do this spring and I'm so far behind right now that I think I'm first! Dibs on the Mighty Mouse.
oh Bee I KNOW what you mean. SAME HERE.

gets discouraging for me because there's SOOOO MUCH I want to do and just don't have the energy.

I've got the boards and the wire out by the gazebo just waiting for a spurt of energy that hasn't came. Then there are flower beds that are full of knee high weeds and most of them where folks drive up and come into the house.

I was thinking the other day, just buy some round up and round up the whole thing and be done with it. yep might be just what I do to. Got monkey grass planted around it but sure thinking it could be killed and just plant grass and call it good day. Tired of fighting flower beds. yup sounds like a plan and much easier to.

Something is not right here......there should never be a time when young birds miss dinner and don't get up to eat. Then to sleep through another meal? Something is not right. I'd turn off that heat lamp as they don't need it for those temps and for that age of birds. Keep an eye on these birds....if they are that lethargic and at that age, I'd be worried about coccidiosis.

Turning off the heat may help..it could be that they are just too hot. Let us know how they go along?
yeah I was thinking that doesn't sound right either. Moving shouldn't make them tired. I move mine a bunch and they just go wild. I sure hope they are ok and you catch what the problem is in time.

Today the CX chicks are 2 wks old and have voluntarily abandoned their brooder so I broke it down and took out their heat source. They have been "foraging" all over the deep litter in the coop today and are having a ball. I left two hay bales in the coop as a wind block for them and they have a little apple bushel basket to huddle into if they should want to, it has fresh hay in it.

Will go up there after it quits raining so hard and check to see if all made it back to their sleeping quarters and are accounted for. Put some stored leaves into the coop for more deep litter and to give the chicks something new to dig through...these leaves have been stored next to the coop and are chock full of bug goodies and worms.

The new dog is quite interested in the chicks and follows them around, terrifying them..I think he wants them to stay in the coop. Yesterday he put one back in the coop with just a swipe of his big nose...rolled that chick towards the pop door and it got to it's feet and ran screaming for the safety of the brooder!
more news you got you a new dog? I sure hope he trains really well because I know you will train him. Man that basket sounds neat and cozy!

My new ones are under my feet and jumping into the feed bucket...sitting on the back porch steps waiting for me to come out and play..er ...feed. They are just as moochy as all the other BAs I've had. I've named them Idgie and Ruth ( Friend Green Tomatoes). They are friendlier than the birds I've had since they were chicks...go figure. I've always had good success with BAs.
I don't know WHAT the deal is with these. You;d think I have abused them or something.

as soon as I get me some more RIR hens I think I am going to sell these. I'm trying to raise me some more RIR's now. LOL LOVED Fried Green mators!

I've always wanted to go to NZ and Australia! It's amazing to me how big the farms/stations are there and how much managing must go into them. I'm so glad you've joined us here and I think we can glean much wisdom from your experience....and maybe have some laughs at the same time!

Here's a funny clip from my own family....my first grand kid, at a week old....pay close attention to my boy's conversation and sound effects behind the cooing of the grandma and watch for the baby's facial expressions. It says it all and this is what I've had to deal with all these years.....if I thought the FF liquid would help here I would tranq these guys and tube it down their throats!

LOVED her expression lol. Was like she thought, oh how rude, please. lol

Aloha kākou,

Thank you all for the answers on making your own CXs. Iʻm not a doomsday prepper but you gotta keep it in the back of your mind. I was thinking of getting some Cornishes. They look cool too.

Aloha, Puhi

My meaties have been on ff since day two and they are five weeks old now. If I splint the leg what do I use for hardware? I have the coban (with little smiley faces). Now for the sticks. I think that match sticks are much too small. I would estimate these guys around a pound. Where on the leg do I splint? If I span the knee joint he wouldn't be able to lay down.

Mine got like that after intro to new adults My family decided to take on a moving problem for friends and they had not spent the time I did with mine.
It was hard for it not to rub off on them as the new guys freaked out with human contact. They are all gone now. And since I am a late nighter I have started spending time in the coop when they roost for the night I talk to them and touch them hold them and sometimes I even bring them in the house for a treat and to make sure all is right with them. It is making a HUGE difference in them fairly quickly.
LindaB want me to share this funny story. Be careful "tjo" or the same thing could happen to you! I kept back 5 chicks from one of my winter hatches and darn if 4 of them didn't turn into roos. I placed one and figured I'd sell the rest as I had no trouble selling the roos from the previous hatch. But they were purebreds and drop dead gorgeous. So to make these more sellable or placable at least, I decided to make them "sweet" where they wouldn't chase ones kids, etc. So I handle them a lot and make a fuss over them and they sit in my lap and talk to me. Well, they started doing the wing dance all around my feet. I thought it was funny until the other day one of them grabbed a hold of my jeans leg made love toy foot! I had rooster cum on my toes! I am old and thought it best to view this philosophically.......that it is nice that there is someone who still finds me attractive! : )

Laughing so hard I peed myself!

I was told to clip his spurs but his job is to keep my ladies safe and if he got in trouble and did not have any protection I would be so upset with myself!

This is my boyfriend Mikey he is 2 years old and is Bantam
but he walks and talks and seduces like he is 10 ft tall!
That's one really pretty rooster!

Quote: Bee, That is what I was told by PM, that I must squash my overly amorous rooster so he will know who is the top of the pecking order. That he obviously thinks I am one of his hens! I really don't want to send him flying across the yard. What's the gentler way to do it? : (
