Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

I, myself, for our own consumption, like chickens fat.  When cooked down the chicken fat fights colds and flu.

Me too, good stuff, the fat ;)...BUT....feeding too high of fat for growing can cause health problems to start showing up...higher fat would be great when close to process, but youngns don't benefit from so much fat, do they? I like low fat until they reach maturity, then pile it on, fatties! Lol :D

When you process do you separate off the fat for broth or do you just use the fat juice from roasting?

Usually we boil first, to get all the good stuff, skin and all. We don't buy "skinless" chicken. We only buy Perdue, we don't even get them from the Mennonites, where we get canning goods and eggs. Perdue is the best, next to home-grown.
After boiling, we can grill, or fry, or make chicken salad or put diced meat in the soup, to finish. Then we make chicken noodle soup with the stock.

(Admin: get that d***ed Verizon ad off my browser when I'm trying to read and write)

Ask Jim Perdue. Their chickie-boos are nice and fat, yellow and small bones, because they grow 'em fast and furious, but they don't want eggs, Just meat.
I don't know his methods (they're secret), but I DO know he feeds lots of marigolds in the mix, for protein, I suspect. http://tinyurl.com/olzz463

Ahhhhh hahaha OK ;) That's beautiful meat there ;) I can't argue with visible proof lol...but I don't raise meat birds; mine just get set up with the best so they can go out into pasture at maturity and do their thing... My chickie boos need to stay lean so they can run fast and keep up with the sheep lol :D Edit; I was curious about the marigolds..I grow them to keep mosquitoes away... But they use marigolds to boost color of the yolk, I guess? Hmmmhttp://www.fresheggsdaily.com/2013/09/marigolds-for-orange-egg-yolks-and.html?m=1

Try using Firefox, if you can. It has a feature where you can have free AdBlock Plus that removes them in an instant. Wouldn't want to see you go, Robert M., as you add spice and fun to the forum!

Frank Perdue ran commercials on TV many years ago that stated the broiler chickens his company were fed a diet that included marigold petals.

Well obviously broilers don't lay eggs lol....

But....where was it!? The mention of the beautiful yellow skin....;)

I use Firefox but it won't block ads generated by BYC, and that's not acceptable to me, under any circumstances. Offer a free blog, then want extortion to block ads? No.
