I did have to contact ebay about the feedback he left...he wasn't able to leave negative so he left neutral and said no eggs hatched and had to have Ebay handle it. I replied that i had made several attempts to rectify the situation with buyer but got no reply....

Good for you! I'm so glad you called them! It turns out I was going to buy from you, but I am in WA state so I figured it would be too far for the eggs to survive. Too bad, you have beautiful birds!

I have had eggs shipped from back east, and had only one hatch. I will probably try next spring, when do you start shipping eggs? I've hatched 22 so far this year, keeping 2 brahmas, and have 36 in brooder and under a broody total so I think I'm done this year, but I have dedicated broodies so I will get eggs next year too. I will save your ebay id, and give it a try.

This is my first year doing this, so I started later in the spring. Hopefully by next spring I will have more laying polish hens. I have been thinking of getting a silkie roo (if cheeseburger doesn't turn out to be a roo) and sell silkie eggs to hatch too...

There seems to be a trend or a scam that buyers are trying on Ebay. First, they rip apart your packaging job, saying there's not enough padding, too much movement in the box, etc. to make you feel guilty and doubt yourself (I pack very carefully and well--little to no breakage reported and never more than one or two eggs). Then they tell you that the eggs you sent them have a foul odor, like they were rotten (I never ship an egg older than 48 hours, so I know this isn't true). Then they say that the air cells weren't intact, no photo can prove that, this is also common with shipped eggs. They even send photos of supposedly rotten eggs which don't look any different than fresh eggs. Some claim they have videos of the unboxing, which they can't send you for some reason. So I suggest that you include in your description that you aren't responsible for the condition of the air cells (because shipping can do a number on them) and you will not refund without a return. Most people back down when they find out they have to return the eggs they were planning to get for free. Some will refuse to return them, you just send them a shipping label, I don't believe you are charged unless they use it.

There's always the passive-aggressive buyer that leaves you a positive rating with a negative comment about something you've already stated you are not responsible for, like hatch rate. Include in your description that negative or disparaging comments will be disputed because you have already disclosed the risks involved with shipped eggs. Most sane buyers won't want to look like a fool when you respond to their comments.

I know this all sounds negative, but negative feedback and bad buyers can really ruin an honest seller's day.

A positive rating that honestly states whether air cells were damaged or eggs hatched is perfectly fair. Buyers deserve to understand the reality of attempting to hatch shipped eggs. My own experience has been that even well packed eggs often fail to hatch. I've actually received eggs that were quite porous as well as unclean, and the seller lost nothing by sending them. Buyers assume all the risk and deserve to understand that money spent is easily in exchange for nothing in the end.
