I just started getting chickens this week. When I picked some up, the lady who I got them from told me that one of them was probably fertilized. How will I know if my chicken laid a fertilized egg, so I don't pick it up with the others?

You won't know if an egg is fertilized unless you crack it open and look for signs so slight it is hard to see sometimes.

Your eggs will be safe to eat if gathered daily.

And unless you have a rooster, the eggs will stop being fertile soon.

You can't tell whether the egg is fertilized or not unless you break it open.
Also, it will do no good to leave a fertilized egg with the hen unless she is broody, i.e. spending almost all of 24 hours sitting on it - for at least 21 days.
