Few Questions One Not Concerning A Hatcherie

What I mean is, it can be cold,snowy and 4 feet of snow in winter, or it can be 1" of snow.Or none at all.And spring/summer can be hot or normal.No telling really

Okay so that is another reason to make sure you have a nice big area for them because if you do end up with a big snowstorm they are going to want to stay in the coop so you want to make sure they have plenty of room.

But that's $65 with shipping, if I'm correct.I don't understand hatcheries at times.Like, 15 chickens, $20.....

Yes, I shovel out the coop everytime it snows.(just Dont shovel the chickens! they do get underfoot at times though)

So, would those 5 breeds, one of eatch, be able to fit in that coop comfterably, 4-5 hours of free range ALMOST everyday???

I'll see if some of my girls will let me shove them into the new coop I put together today so you can see how crowded it is. The dimensions are almost the same. I don't have all your breeds other than RIR and BO but I have a few others similar in size.

I'm not trying to be rude.But what's your gestamite, they can fit in it, or they cannot?I really hope it does, cause me and my younger sister are going to pay half.But my mother is still thinking about it.

They will "fit" the same way you and your sister can fit in a closet, and I'm not saying that to be mean or creepy but just to point out that just because you "fit" doesn't mean it's good living conditions, you know? They will scratch it bare in less than a week and you will need to clean it constantly because of the poop buildup inside and out, which also means poopy dirty eggs. Boredom and crowding can lead to feather picking and other behaviour problems.

If you get your chicks locally, that will be a little more money to put toward their housing and you also won't have to worry about them going in the mail. Say you order them from chickens for backyards and they all die - you'll still be out $32 or however much shipping was because normally only the cost of the chicks themselves is refunded. So that's certainly a risk, especially when shipping a very small number of chicks. I usually order at least three of any breed I want, just to be on the safe side (death, sexing errors, etc) and sell my extras.

Why are you ordering chicks when plenty of Maine feed stores order chicks all spring? That will save you $40.

A lone silkie with LF generally do not do well. They get picked on.

You are in New England (I am between MA/ME so I know both climates). Five hours of free range is not realistic for 4-5 months out of the year. The more room you have in a coop the better off you will be. If you can only start with a small coop then stick to 3 hens only.
