Filling the incubator 6-3-2011 Join me for my 1st attempt?

Well, good news. Our little guy that wasn't doing so well has perked up. Walking around (still wobbly), holding his head up, eyes open, and chirping away. We also had another egg hatch... This sort of threw me... can anyone tell me what Rhode Island Reds usually look like? We had one come out black, and one came out mostly light brown with a darker streak... but both are Rhode Island Reds.?

Got babies jumping out of eggs left and right. They started at 1 A.M. this morning. Just couldn't wait till tomorrow I guess. All seem to be doing well except my Barred Plymouth Rock eggs. None of them have started doing anything yet. I had Delaware, Black Copper Marans, 2 different lines of Rhode Island Red, and the Barred Rocks. all are hatching pretty well except the Barred Rocks. Don't know if they will do anything or not. Just the chance we take with having eggs shipped in I guess. I will try once more with them if nothing happens. I'm sure it isn't anything to do with the breeder.

Sorry for double post, never uploaded pictures before and just figured out how to do it. So sorry.

About 9:30 last night one of my cochin eggs chirped and started wobbling like crazy. By 10:00 pm two of them had pipped.

...And now not a darn thing since. No peeping, no movement, no zips.

Wondering if they're still alive and if any of the others are even going to try. Today is Day 20...

In your second to last picture, all the way to the right, there is a black chick and a tawny looking chick. Are those both Rhode Island Reds of yours? This is what the difference is between my two Rhode Island Reds. If so, what is the name of each, or do they just call them Rhode Island Reds?

I had a duck egg that pipped, and then went 50 hours before doing anything. My chicks pipped and then waited 12 hours or more before doing anything else. I've had 8 chicks hatch, and still have 14 eggs that haven't done anything. Today is day 22 for me. I'm hoping they are just a little late. They were all moving before they went into lockdown...

Thanks, Stitch. That's reassuring. And they did pip pretty early...I won't officially be to day 20 until noon today.

Plus, one of them did wiggle and cheep a little more a few minutes ago!

Still nothing on the Marans. I'm wondering if the cochins are hatching earlier because they're bantams, and the Marans are HUGE eggs.
