Filling the incubator 6-3-2011 Join me for my 1st attempt?

The eggs arrived!!! I guess the big box marked FRAGILE HANDLE WITH CARE didn't clue them it that that was the package of hatching eggs I was expecting. lol. They were packaged extremely well, no cracks or nothing. Now to cross my fingers that the postal workers were kind to the package...

I was wondering the same thing... What is the reasoning behind letting the eggs sit for 24 hours? Assuming that a box gets normal handling (by normal, I mean some moving around and not being thrown against a wall), wouldn't that be the same thing as the mother josling the eggs around in a nest? Just curious. Can't wait to see my kids' faces when they get back from basketball camp to see the eggs arrived, especially after I told them that they wouldn't be here today...

Congrats on the egg arrival! I bet you're right...the kids will be trying to see if they can go 21 days without sleep, lol!

One of my shipments arrived also. The other one is scheduled for tomorrow. Darn it, she mailed them a day later than I had asked. But I understand. You can't "demand" a certain ship date...it's up to the hens.

Anyway, my wheaten marans eggs look great. I haven't candled them yet, but on visual inspection they looked terrific. They were very well packaged. Also, they seem to have been marked with sharpies, so that answers one of our questions. :)

I ordered 12 eggs and got 15. All but one are a very dark brown. The other one isn't bad...it's much darker than normal brown eggs...but it is a shade lighter than the others. I'm fine with that! I would definitely buy from this breeder again. He's been wonderful to deal with.

I've decided to let them sit today while waiting for my other batch to (hopefully) arrive tomorrow. But when that batch comes I may not wait a full 24 hours to load the bator. I'm thinking if I get the other batch in the morning I will load all the eggs Friday night.

Good luck! Here we go......!

Count me in! I'll be setting 6 duck eggs I got in the mail yesterday. Mini silver appleyards! Excited!

They go longer that a chicken, right? I still have to look up the specs on incubating ducks. My first try.

My eggs were set Tuesday night and the temp has done very well considering that our temps have been in the 90's and 100's for the last week. Can't wait to see what hatches.

Well, I got my second order of eggs today, but it wasn't exactly what I ordered! Trying to contact the seller to see what the mixup was, or if the rest are just in another box which got delayed. Too bad -- I'm missing the sizzle eggs, which I really wanted.

Regardless, I'm going to have to put my marans eggs in the bator today or they'll be getting too old. Can't afford to wait if there was a mixup or if the other eggs are delayed.

Day 1 is drawing to a close. The temp is staying in acceptable range, humidity is at 38%. I didn't have to worry about marking the eggs, as they were labeled what each egg was. My Buff orpingtions, Welsummers, and Barred Rocks were from okiechick here on BYC. Let me tell you, she packaged those babies extremely well! There was no way anything was going to move or shift around. All 18 eggs + 3 extras arrived intact and looked great. If there is a feedback forum here for shipped eggs, I'd give her a 5 star rating. I think the kids are doing better at the waiting part than I am. It's killing me to have to wait till day 7 or so, so I can candle again. I want to see those little fuzzbutts developing.

Day 3 is tonight! So far everything is still looking good. We have some minor temp fluxuations but nothing really severe more than 1 degree + or - so I am not too concerned. Humidity is staying right around 45% and all is well so far. Can't wait to candle on day 10.

I just got my eggs today, and I'm planning on setting tonight around 8:30.

I've got 12 Lavender Ameraucana's, and 13 BBS Marans (First try with Marans, SO EXCITED).
Mind if I tag along?

Yes, please! Join us! The more the merrier! This is my first hatch attempt, so I'm hoping it will go well. We have 26 eggs in the incubator, 21 shipped eggs and 5 local eggs. So far temps are staying pretty steady, and humidity is around 38%. I don't trust the incubator, so I've been checking it everytime I pass through the room, which is about hourly...lol. I really want to get a good hatch. We've got Barred Rocks, Welsummer, Buff Orpingtons, and the locals are Rhode Island Reds from my daughter's teacher. I'm hoping for even just a few of each.

Welcome aboard!
