need to get a good, current pic.

also today i saw a little pnuerotic small yellow dog running all over the farm. seems to be potentionally another castaway

Hi Beefy = nice looking dog in the "after" pictures. We have a stray, Lucy, that showed up on my shop porch when I had a little vintage jewelry shop in downtown Covington. She was skin and bones, with a lot of hair missing - had no pads left on bottom of her feet she had walked so far - could no longer stand - was still lactating from teats dragging the ground. She let out a long and sad howl and I brought her home. She's the sweetest and most loving dog you could imagine but you can tell someone mistreated her terribly. She won't play - doesn't seem to know how. She will drop into submission roll if you even look at at her directly. She will silently and quickly kill anything that steps foot on our property though and is the one that killed my ducks but she's great at keepng away predators. She has since learned the ducks are o.k., just like the chickens, and as already accepted Prissy as the newest member of the farm.

Isn't it sad that people think that because you have a farm, they can just abandon their animals?

its sad that people don't commit to their animals and that some are thought of as property. its sad that they are neglected or abused. it seems like its always the sweetest animals that are treated poorly too and they certainly dont deserve that. it infuriates me. it makes me mad that someone would starve an animal and then dump it on the roadside to die. its saddens me that people think that freeing an animal in the countryside is a good idea, for them, and for the animal. in reality most of the dogs and cats that are dumped on the roadside (Oops! i meant "sent to live on a farm") normally hang out near the road where they were dumped waiting for their owner to return. then the ones that dont get run over start looking for something to eat when they begin to starve. in their search for food they either get run over, starve, or become a nuisance to livestock and are eliminated.

I agree. Poor little Prissy stayed pretty much right by the road in front of the house for about two weeks. Everytime we tried to catch her she would growl, snarl, charge at us and then run into woods but she would be right back there as soon as we gave up and left. I know in her mind she was waiting for her owner to return.

Good news is - We just got back from vet and though Prissy put up a fight fit for a pit bull at being examined, and I have the scratches and scars to prove it, she checked out well. She has tape worms but other than that is doing great. Vet said she is 5-6 months old and just getting her canine teeth. Makes her same age as Scarlett. She weighed 9 pounds. Who dumps a little 9 pound puppy and thinks it will be o.k. on it's own? Hubby took her to walk (on leash) down to road yesterday to check the mail thinking it was a nice long walk down the driveway and since she had been living there for last few weeks it would be o.k. Said he was checking mail when a truck came by and Prissy hit the ground, flattened out, started shaking and would not move. He had to pick her up and carry her back to house. I can't imagine how scared she has been living down there for two to three weeks. It makes me cry to think about it.

Edited to say: Last night we noticed again how she would yelp in pain when being petted sometimes. Narrowed it down to something with left ear so I got out a flashlight and we went through the try and hold down the crazy little thing routine - found a huge tick wedged deep in her ear canal. Had to use tweezers to get it out and it put up a struggle all the while she was screaming. Makes me so angry that people toss out precious life like it was garbage.

But I'll tell you one thing, this little dog can fight and squirm and scare the dickens out of you. I'm trying to hold her for the vet and even after getting a muzzle put on, she was tearing me up with her nails. We had to put her in truck while vet examined our little goat with the broken leg (yes, I have my hands full) so when we went to get in truck she was growling at us and charging at us and I thought "Oh no, we've got to start all over with her trying to win her over." These little Min Pins sure have an attitude.

It's wonderful that you saved this little life! I'm sure she was terrified and that's why she acted like a ferocious killer before you persuaded her with food.

Good for you...and lucky little Prissy!!

This makes me so sick. I deal with stories like this every day and have personally fostered over 40 dogs in the past 7 years. So many are left to suffer a long death in silence. Any animal that is found and saved is so fortunate. Some people make me so sick; I wish the same thing could be done to them.

My min pin is the same way. He used to attack us if we pointed our finger at him and said "Cobi, NO!" There is a reason his nickname is Cobi Satan! He still is rude, but we tolerate his bad behaviour more than we would our shepherd mix, because he is soo small. He is ridiculous! But so cute and warm against your back in the winter!

Here's an update on Prissy.

She and Scarlett are the same age - six months and though they are like Mutt & Jeff in size and appearance they have hit it off like you wouldn't believe. They wrestle and play and chase each other all day long - which is great because prior to Prissy arriving Scarlett had way too much energy and was getting herself in trouble. Scarlett seems to know just how much pressure to apply when she has Prissy's head in her mouth or her skinny legs in her jaws.

Prissy seems to mind really well. Has even stopped chasing the chickens and calmly walks with me in and out of coop and run while I feed and tend to them. She sleeps with me and follows me everywhere. I have just fallen in love with this little dog.
