hey guys,
I’m a finch Breeder newbie.
My finches have laid eggs in the past but they never developed into anything or they smooshed the babies ‍♀️

But I have 2 society eggs (I think it’s a society) and five gouldian eggs.

Can anyone tell me if they think they are actually viable with an offspring?
I think at least 3 of the 7 are but ‍♀️ I’m not sure

egg 1: I think this is a dud?

Egg 2# the veins are not on one side but more like a ring. I could not find a single spot to show the start of an embryo. So another dud?

egg 3: I can’t tell if this one is viable.

Egg 4: is this another dud?

I did not remove any of the tags because I wasn’t sure if I was missing somethings or candling them too early.

If those other eggs are no longer viable should i remove them from the nest?

The last one is redder because it is a bit further along but that's completely normal for finches. It is very cool when you can see the heart beating away in there (around day 3 of incubation). If there are veins and redness they are good to go. If the veins fade or the embryo turns black you know the embryo has unfortunately died. Always leave any infertile eggs in the nest as they act as hot water bottles for the chicks when they hatch and are left by their parents when the parents need to fill up on food for their little ones. Dead eggs pose no danger either but the shell takes on a grey colour.

Sometimes a pair isn't compatible so they don't successfully raise babies but if they are pretty young and/or inexperienced it can take them a few goes to get it right and figure out what to do, heartbreaking though it can be for us.

I have two society finches who I had to hand rear from 2 weeks old. Their parents abandoned them to help out with another pairs chicks who'd just fledged. They are the sweetest things and I adore them.
