finding a horse trainer

Daizy had her training session today. She did pretty good. A lot of rearing though. She was being a stubborn. I like this pic it was from a week ago and she looked so cold I felt bad but she was in her shelter. She was covered in frost. That is the only night it was like that so far this winter.

LOL, if you saw Patti, she'd look 16.3 and then some, that's a big substantial mare. Her colt, Harley, who is barely 8 months old is already 14 hh.

Hubby does work hard, I was making a joke in case he saw it. He will not be worthless for 6 weeks, he couldn't stan it. I have to tell him to stop and take it easy once in a while.

It is a desert here in the summer and winter is bitter cold really weird but not too us lol.....it snowed a ton already like a night or two before I took that pic. We don't get much rain here it is not like Seattle totally different on this side of the state. It is not usually like that but it is real windy that night. I watch for it to get too bad. We constantly look at the weather and such. I been wondering on those nights if she should have a blanket on but not that often. Some people tell me if she has the shelter she is fine. Also she is young enough to keep her self warm....she has enough energy too they said.

We have been around 32 or so in the day for a high and in the teens at night for the last week. Then there is wind shield to watch for. Which has not been no wind really the for the last week...probably since I took that pic. That was at 1 am. I was not expecting it she looked weird for sure. There was a haze that night of falling frost.


My husband wants to go somewhere warm in the winters. He hates the cold/snow. He'd rather it be 100 out everyday then so cold.

No problem catching her never is I can halter her over the gate and that is what he did too but she would not move so he could get in. He was working with her on respecting his space and getting her to respond to kissing noise, a stick/whip- she would fling her head up and swish her tail buck/kick a bit instead of moving so he smacked her with the whip and that is mostly when she reared, one time she paused in the air and then reared again. He laughed and said she is trying to train me to stop if I rear or I will do it again if he did it again....so of course he kept after her. By the time he left he worked with her about 45 min. He said she was gentle but did not listen or know what to do when ask, but that she knew how to lunge pretty good.

So how did you feel about your session with the trainer? Sounds like you are on a roll and have a great way to pass the winter working with her.

I think it went well. The session got easier for her and he had to be less hard on her as he continued. By the time he left he did not have to use the whip to get her to move just his hand and a kiss noise. He said she was smart. Just not sure how often I should have him come out now? He said to give him a call when I wanted him to work with her again. We were only out there an hour total. My hay guy knows him said he just trained one of his horses and he is a really good trainer, and another neighbor I know said he trains all of his horses. I am getting some good reviews.

He worked with her here at my house this time, which was nice. He said something about a round pen being perfect. My husband would be willing to take us there just right down the road and he does not have to stay. He can come back home and I can call him so that might work out.


By the time I came in the house my legs were numb and face was frozen.

ETA: About passing the winter....we are stuck here probably for the next 2-3 winters. We have to deal with the winters here. That is the plan though is to be somewhere warmer in the winters but not sure if that will ever happen.
