Finding ordinance

I’m about to go blind from trying to look through all this to find county ordinances for keeping chickens. Where do you find this information in these ordinances I’m looking up for Stafford County Virginia in Spotsylvania County Virginia and I’m dizzy from reading and still had found nothing. Can anybody help me find where I would look to get an actual answer. I would appreciate any help because my head hurts. Thank you

If you can't find it online by searching for something like "___ County zoning" or "___ County ordinances" call or email the county offices directly and ask them for the information. Some counties are great at having everything online and easy to find, some not so much.

Keep in mind if you're in a city or an HOA you're subject to their restrictions as well, which may be more restrictive than county.

It should be in here. I'm not sure how your lot is zoned, but you can click into each zone district to see the regulations that apply.

You need to be looking at the zoning info. If you know what the zoning is for your lot, you can find out what you can and can't do. Most municipalities have zoning maps online.

Found my zoning is A3 in Spotsylvania I can find land tax information. I’m in Partlow the most rural part of Spotsylvania. I mean there’s real nothing but a small gas station with 5 parking spot and gas pumps haven’t even updated to digital display with in 12 miles. When called I was told I can find it online and when I asked where I was told the county website Told her I couldn’t find it and was told I’ll have to hold and no one returned to the phone. I’ll continue running in my circle. Thanks though. Now I know the info I need to find the info I’m seeking

If you are zoned A3 the A is for agriculture not sure about the 3 not my state . A simple call to your local building codes department should answer all your questions . Are you within city limits ? Is there a HMO in your subdivision . If no HMO with restrictions and your not within a incorporated city limit. No Mayor ? city council ? your probably good .Codes administration or codes enforcement should be able to tell you .Good luck I see chickens in your future

I figure if I’m not with in code or whatever than neither is most of Partlow. Plus my neighbors ( all 2 of them) love my goats and chickens

I’ve had chicken for years and goats. I shouldn’t just assume but I did. But like I most of the people in the area have chickens goats sheep alpacas and even pass a house with a peacock on my way into town. I want to think I’m good but my county is weird. Growing up it made the news for the amount of growth in small amount of time but 1/2 the county is still very rural. If we can’t get internet out here we should at least get to have chickens. Lol. Luckily we have cell service so I can backyard chickens!
