I know that there are bound to be others on here who know how to caponize a roo. I am just wondering if you taught yourself or found someone to teach you how to do it. I've read the article and have the tools but would really like to learn from an expert rather than hack into an immature roo myself.

I strongly recommend hacking into an already dead bird (or several) first. I tried to teach myself on 2 that had died of natural causes (predators) and could not figure out what I was looking at. So I took a dead one to a very nice vet and he did a necropsy on it and showed me what to look for. We then tried caponizing on a live bird and ended up nicking an artery so the bird bled out. But, I learned a LOT about what to look for and on the 3rd dead one I opened, I was finally able to find one of its testicles all by myself.

Just saying, it takes practice and it is kinder to learn on one that is already dead.
