Thanks for the advice. I think I'll try the "community" nest. Oh yeah, I KNOW my run isn't predator proof at all right now, but I'm hoping it will last until October until I can buy the run that actually GOES with this coop, from the same company. So, if I keep my three banties, that should be ok for my small coop?

why if you didnt like the coop and all , why oh why would you go back to the same company ???

There is nothing wrong with round roost poles... especially in warm climes like AZ.

In nature chickens would roost on tree limbs that they can wrap their feet around... um tree limbs are round.

If I lived in cold country, I would provide 2 X 4s with the 4 side flat for them to sit on.

The only reason I'd go back to the same company to get the run, is because is lines up with the coop properly. And mainly, because I can't make a better one, honestly. I'm still pretty green, so I don't know of any company's that just make runs that I can put right up next to my coop. Anyone know of any? I'd be glad to look around.

That is a really cute coop and I think you did a fine job on the run. You GO girl!!!

The only place the run doesn't look like it matches up is that right front post that's leaning a little to the left.

That would be easy to fix if you wanted but it is functional. If you have dogs or work outside the home, I would put on hardware cloth that you apron out to prevent diggers. With the winter and shorter day light hours, you may be opening and closing the poop door when it's still dark out and you would want the run as preditor proof as possible.

Also, I would put a couple tops on the run to keep the rain and snow out of the run.

Attached a pic of my dog house banty coop/tractor that I have 3 banties in (2 silkies, 1 cochin).

THANK YOU to you and your husband for your service to our country.

Great job on your coupe and run.

REMEMBER.....chickens tend to be very forgiving and it's hard to really truly do anything WRONG.

Just try and see what works for you and what doesn't.....and adjust course as you go along.

If your yard is fenced in and you don't have predators nearby (coons / coyotes) you may want to let them run in the yard some. If you do have them though....make the appropriate adjustments.

I agree on a cover over the run for the snow......and if the house is weak / soft / or needs work......paint, glue, and nails are easy to get and work with.

Congrats on the chickens....NOW HAVE FUN!!!

Thanks for the replys everyone. Sweet Cheeks, your coop and run are AWESOME!! Is that how big my banties will get? Awwww! lol I like how you have their feed and waterers too. But I will probably remove the chicken wire and do the hardware cloth when our pay allows. I have the wood holding the coop over a bit on the side because unforutnatly, my backyard is slightly sloped for runoff water. I've yet to experience our first rain out there yet, but I know it gets muddy.

I don't really have much in the way of grass... I grow weeds real good though.

You did a great job on the run, give yourself credit. I would paint the coop if it is not coated just to keep it from deteriorating. On the run you don't have to pull off the chicken wire, just put the hardware cloth over it, be sure to add a piece of wood or something over where you staple or nail it to the existing frame so it can't easily be pulled off.

Good job, you will someday be very good at this, I can tell!
