Parents have said that we don't want to build toy drive because then you end up with an obsessive dog like our friends' dogs who constantly want to play fetch, and also no long leashes

Why no long leashes? Just connect a few leashes then I guess.

Toy drive is fine. And for treat weight issues, use kibble (part of your dogs dinner), for training.

He'll be hungry for it.. he'll work for it. Why would they be skeptical?
No idea

I was like "I know you guys want to be weight conscious, what if we fed one meal and measured out the other, and then people would take the kibble from that meal to use as treats? Whatever's left is for dinner. That way he's getting the same amount of food."
And their reaction was kinda meh, like this emoji : :/

Playing and tugging is still great to use with dogs. If you don’t want them jumping around for the toy, what I do is I train with toys. In this I mean that I teach my dogs to only grab the toy when I say the command “tug” or “get it”. This way, they don’t lunge at me uncontrollably or possibly accidentally bite me.

Im just curious, is your PFP a Domino patterned GSD, or an Alaskan husky sort of dog?

Oh, she’s a Siberian husky.
(I know, horrible decision for chickens. Huskies have very high prey drive, so she really wants to eat our chickens.):(

i really couldn't tell, LOL.. She looks like a gsd, but not as floofy as most huskies I've seen

as long as you can keep your chickens safe, I see no problem!
