I had been planning to do training with a harness, until I'm at the point where we can have a pleasant walk where the dog is in the walker's immediate area with a slack leash, and won't bolt at distractions. That's under the logic that it will do less harm to the dog and will allow for more control when training, and IMO adult dogs in harnesses don't look super great.they are pretty much just for escape proof reasons.
What do you want to walk your dog on? a harness, a flat collar?
I was planning to start training my proper heel on whatever we're used to walking in, and then work to heel with other stuff and off leash.whatever it is, train with that item. Train your heel on a harness if you want to do daily walks on a harness.
Unless your dog is giving you serious problems, there is no need for a fancy martingale or a choke chain or a head halter.
