Ok, so hundreds of posts debating pine shavings vs. pellets, and so on and so forth. Shavings are dusty and pellets expensive...Well, our local garden store sells pretty cheep FIR chips (nuggets)

Any thoughts on this?

Peace,

That would not make good bedding. It will be not very absorbant at all, and not much fun for chickens to walk on, and VERY difficult for you to clean.

I can't believe it can possibly be cheaper than shavings, anyhow... remember the bags you buy at the feedstore are compressed, they expand to, what, like 6 cu ft (if memory serves).

I sure wouldn't do it.

You could use those fir chips if you needed temporary mud remediation in the run.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat

Actually that looks like mainly pine bark and if so, it's extremly absorbant. However I must agree though, it would be hard to walk on.
