This is a very interesting post. Here in England fireworks are not banned and can be bought in lots of convenience stores and garden centres from October to the middle of November. They can be bought by anyone aged over 18, in theory. In fact lots of teenagers below this age buy them quite openly. They often use them in inappropriate ways such as lighting them and throwing them, or putting them through people's letter boxes. When I worked in a large high school, someone threw a lit firework along a crowded corridor at change of lessons!
I hate them, and I think they should be banned except for display purposes. They terrify elderly people and animals and they can cause damage. My daughter lost her car windscreen to a rocket and a neighbour lost two panes of glass in her conservatory roof. Despite repeated complaints the Government is very half hearted about doing anything, their latest effort to control the nuisance is to ban them after 11 o'clock at night. Needless to say, no one polices that particular law!
