FIRST BARRED ROCK EGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys wont believe it! Today I went outside and all my chickens were out and about. Later when I was starting to put them away, I saw one of the biggest barred rocks go into one of the nesting boxes. I thought it was peculiar, because this was the first time one went into the nesting box willingly and stayed there. I realized that maybe she was getting ready to lay her first egg! I left her out there for an hour or so, and then I went back out to see if there was any progress. Sure enough, right under her was AN EGG!!!!!!! I CANT BELIEVE IT! It was perfectly smooth and had a bit of blood on it. But we our so proud of her! I will keep you all updated on egg production, but we are so excited!

So I'm curious to know if your barred rock got really mean right before she started to lay? Mine is 21 weeks and so mean to my other girls.

Nope. she is a real softy. doesn't peck anyone.
