Our power went out last night!!!! It went out at 9:30 pm when I was on here typing! I couldn't believe my luck. On the most important batch of eggs and the first! We Called the power people and they said it wouldn't be up until 11:45. Then it hit me..The incubator!!!!!!What was I supposed to do? At first I thought they would get the power back on within 30 minutes but it didn't happen. So finally I put a hot water bottle in there with them and the temp got back at about 100 degrees. Finally after hours of getting up and checking the temp, the power came back on at 3 am....Today I candled the eggs and I think I lost one. I couldn't see any veins in it but the other 3 I seen veins still. Hopefully this doesn't happen again and we are supposed to have an ice storm tomarrow

man thats gotta suk ,,, sorry,,,, next time,, run and grab a blanket, and throw over it first thing,, that'll keep the heat in longer,,, and the water bottles was a good idea too !!
good work,,,,,, now even tho i aint no candler,,, if this JUST happened, then ya candled,, i dont know if enough time has pass for you not to see veins,, it could of stopped before this???

Right when the power went out I threw my deerskin over it and my parka. God I hope their going to live

I feel so bad. If anyone does candle what do you look for if one is dead? Their on day 11 so halfway through.

theres a thread on here somewhere with good pics i think,,, i would think you want to see alot of veins, and a dark spot being the chick,,, i candle at 1 week,, then 2 weeks,, and my 2 week ones usually are pretty dark blob at the bottom, with a couple big veins,, and the airsac,,,, like i said,, thats a part i dont get into lol,,, sorry

The 3 has the dark blotch in the middle with the veins but the other one looked just the same but without the viens. I think It might of died, but I'm keeping it in there still.

Even if it had died, you probably wouldn't see a change that fast. Besides, mama hen gets up for periods of time while setting and they do just fine. I think there is still a good chance, unless something happened to it before.

I'm going to candle again on day 14 and then leave them alone or if I smell something bad in my room >.<

Yeah I collected robin eggs and others when I found them on the ground. One day one broke and my mom thought I did it LOL. (BTW Jim I'm still waiting on the chickens head in ya mouth pictures

)
