First chick has hatched - Silkie (I forgot to wash my hands)

Anything from the second egg yet?

No sign. Originally it was moving and I thought I heard peeping so thought it was internally pipped so made a small air hole but nothing since first egg hatched which is over 24 hours ago. First baby is now in the brooder and I have candled the 2nd egg this morning. I can see darkness and veins leading upto the air cell which looks larger but no signs of a beak. What do I do now?

If it doesn't make it, don't blame yourself.
I really don't think you harmed it by handling it.
One of my early hatches, I let a hen sit on two eggs. She'd never sat before. She ended up burying them under the straw and pooping on them. I washed them. That can apparently wash bacteria into the egg.
They were still stained, but I let my more experienced broody try. Both hatched fine.
It's more likely to be something else if it doesn't hatch.
Hope it does.

No you're right and I've just seen the egg wobbling, so it is still alive. Its just whether to assist or not?

Ok, will do. I have posted a new thread to see if anyone else has had a similar experience and can help too. Feel a bit like a fish out of water. Thanks anyway.

Is this about the one that you had another thread about?
Usually it's best to wait, then wait some more - that's what I try to do. I don't hatch that often, so when in doubt - I wait and read this article, then re-read it LOL
