I am a new member raising chickens for the first time in my almost 74 years. After much searching and reading on this forum I built a coop. It is a copy of the 4' x 6' sold by Horizon and other sites. It is twice as large at 6' x 8'. Standard 2x4 construction with T1-11 siding. We have 14 - 2 week old chicks waiting for me to finish it. 2 each of 7 breeds. My daughter is in charge of that part. This is also my first post at this or any other forum. Here is a pic at it's current build. If you would like to see more pics I have a web page at http://lanesdomain.com/henhouse.html I can stand any praise and a little criticism and any suggestions on whats wrong or what I can do to improve it. Thanks. Updated house picture on 4/21. Updated website. Working on a BYC page.

Praise: Excellent job on the overall construction. Looks like you hired a veteran crew!

Criticism: The only thing I don't see being addressed is water entry below your windows at the hinge of the nest boxes. If you are in Deer Park, WA, near Spokane, rain won't be much of an issue for you. (Pines in the back ground looks about right) It looks like you may have that figured out from the pics on your blog. Also, edit your post to remove the period from the hotlink at the end, or hit the space bar and move the period out one space.

Thanks for posting the great quality pics.

I am so new I am not even sure what all free ranging implies. The coop is in a fenced 40' x 60' garden area and we plan to let them out in that. As far as cost I have about $600 in it including the chicks. That's less than half of what I see the 4' x 6' coops sell for.
