First crows ... and I MISSED them!

i really dont know them all that well but last night the neighbours across the road let off a cannon...yes you read correctly a canon...i guess they were having a party of some sort...after that im not so worried bout my roo lol

Yea! A cannon is much louder than a rooster! Do your neighbors that set it off do Civil War Reinactments? 2 of my sister inlaws shoot canon off in reinactments and have a few friends that own cannons. They had them come and fire one off in our neighbor's field before our 4th of July party a few yrs ago. LOUD!!!!! My sister inlaws sometime play with the symphonies around that time of yr shooting them off.

Holy Sheepdip Batman!!! A cannon?!
Yep, a heckuva lot louder than a fuzzy little rooster...LOL
Those first crows are downright awful...
Jerry sounded like a rubber duckie being run over by a steamroller.

But he got better with practice...
Slifer on the other hand, sounded like a coyote or a wolf. AWOOOOOO!
for reference...a baby crying is higher in decibels than a rooster crowing so maybe babies should be banned along with roosters?

Smitty's Farm :

Goodegg,
I hope you get to hear the roo crow soon. I thought I was the only crazy one trying to encourage my roo to crow. He sounded really sick with the first try. It scared my daughter, she didn't know what was making the strange sound. After a few weeks he's well oiled machine and crowing all the time whenever his little heart desires.

Where do you live in NW Fla? I grew up there.

Nope, haven't heard him yet. And my daughter was a little worried too. She said it sounded like someone was stepping on him. The second crow was probably from the same roo (I have 3, I think), and I think he's got it down already, from what I've been told.

I live north of Pensacola, towards Alabama. Nice country out here, but we're too hot like almost everyone else right now. Where did you grow up?

Yep, I bet in a couple of weeks I'll be saying the exact same thing. I know that female runner duck of mine drives me *crazy* with her constant squacking sometimes!

Goodegg (Trish),
Hope you get to hear it soon, but you may change your mind. Do you have neighbors very close? My daughter says the first crow sounded like an electric drill. She thinks it was imitating all the power tools it heard that my husband used to build the coop.

I grew up in PC ......still have lots of family and friends in the area. We were just there the end of July. It's very hot here in IL also.

Two days later, still no crows.

I leave the house for 30 MINUTES to run an errand, and my friend tells me the roo crowed 5 or 7 times in a row while I was gone.

I come home, hear that news, sit outside with them, crowing and encouraging ...

My little roo stands up tall, flaps his wings, stretches out his neck and ...

nothing. Doesn't make a sound.

Still no crows for mama!

I think it's a conspiracy. Either that, or everyone is just TELLING me they are crowing to make me crazy.

Yep, it's a conspiracy!
I bet he'll be crowing early morning soon and you will hear him. Mine is still crowning all the time.

How hot is Fla right now? We've had a few cooler early mornings, but warms up to upper 90's pretty quick.

Ill swap roos with you...my bloody rooster woke me up this am at 5am and is still freaking crowing up a storm out there...remind me again why we keep roosters?
