It's been many moons since I've been on a date, but I always enjoyed first dates that involved a sport we both liked - skiing, riding, sledding, hiking, etc. That way you avoid the long awkward silences that can happen across a dinner table, and if you do run out of things to say, you can always discuss equipment, the weather conditions, etc. It also ensures you are getting a guy who isn't a couch potato - you don't want to hitch your wagon to someone boring who never gets off their patoot.
