First Egg Countdown

Quote: There are a lot of us here, willing and able to "help" you..(insert evil laugh).

There is a thread here called incubators anonymous that is dedicated to helping with the chicken addiction. Oddly, every time someone says that their incubator is empty, hatching eggs appear at their house....The spouse never knows why either.

I'm playing the waiting game, too! My BRs are going to be 18 weeks on Sunday... Their combs are getting really red and growing like crazy but no laying song (that I've heard) and no crouching either. I've heard they can start anywhere from 17-27 weeks. Anyone have BRs and want to give me your take on how far along they are in the maturity process?

Woohoo congrats to the Legbars! Isn't it crazy how egg colors elude cameras? Even my new EE Biti seems to delight in fooling my camera's eye. She's got lovely golds, cremes and dove-grays all over her, but what does the camera see? Mud-gray. Gah!

And welcome to the wait Mehera! You have gorgeous girls! Unfortunately I'd say you have at least a month ahead of you if there isn't any squatting yet. The comb growth matches what you're saying too.

Mine were laying when I bought them at 18 weeks old. The one on the right in your picture, with the big red wattles, looks very close. Make sure you have the nest box(es) set up with some fake eggs in them. If you already have them set up, watch for them "investigating" the nest boxes. My BRs do not egg squat for me

but they are friendly and great layers.

My BR is 16 weeks old but has almost no comb developement or wattles yet. Does that happen rapidly once it starts or am I going to have a late bloomer? I am hoping soon because I am having family visiting in the middle of July and would love for them to have some frest eggs!

It will seem like the combs and wattles changed to the big girl type over night. Over the next 2 to 4 weeks they will start looking like the ones in the post above this one.

Be patient, you will have eggs next month.

. For now, get everything ready for them and take lots of pictures. They grow very fast.

My two Blue Andalusians seem determined to catch up with their EE sister. One of them squatted for me today, and they have gotten HUGE combs and wattles. WOOT! Go girls GO!!

I have a nicely crested Cream Legbar:

This is a little 12 week old roo. His comb is not straight, but his crest says he has two crest Genes. No crest is a dis-qualifier, bent comb is points off.
