First Egg Countdown

awwww well mine are 20 weeks old and some of them are squatting but still no eggs
Once they squat, you can usually expect eggs in 7 - 10 days! Yea for you....and only 20 weeks! Wow! I am beginning to think this 25 week old EE is a dud! And, my other EE who started laying on Aug 12th did not give me a blue or green egg, but a pale pink (lightest of brown)! I wanted a blue/green egg sooooo bad! BUT, she has had 16 eggs in 17 days! So, I guess I can't really complain. I have ordered some true Ameraucanas for the end of Sept. I WILL GET ME SOME BLUE EGGS!!! And then on to green ones! Sure hope this one more EE will give me some color!

My EE are 23 Weeks old this Wednesday and none are squatting or laying. They don't even look close in the comb department and I have 5 girls! As far as the squatting goes, sometimes they don't do that before laying because I got my first egg from one of my 23 week old Cinnamon Queens yesterday and she hasn't squatted at all yet.

Quote: Congrats! I have had pure Ameraucana's in the past, but lost my favorite to a predator and rehomed the other 2 as they weren't great layers and they were flighty as heck. I do have a lavender ameraucana and a cream legbar pullets growing out, so I will have blue eggs again!

Yea!!! I have a pair of Rhodebar's and she's and the rooster is 25 weeks old and still No eggs...I don't know when they start laying for sure...does anyone???
No idea on Rhodebars, but it should be soon!
here's a photo of the marans egg - it is next to a large barred rock egg for reference. So PRETTY!
Nice, dark egg! Congrats!

Happy Crooks, I have a lady I am getting my True Ameraucana's from. Her experience with them is a lot like yours. But she said the Wheaten Amer. is a lot friendlier than the others. So, that is what I am getting. She is hatching some Cream Legbars and I told her I might want one of those, but aren't their eggs on the small side? I like the cute little crest on the legbars. Well, I have time to decide....she won't have them all hatched out until the end of Sept. Do you like the CL better?

My friend raises Cream Legbars - they are small right now, because they are still pullets. But they should get bigger as the hens get older. Their blue color is gorgeous though, I've seen them in person.

As for my Ameraucana's, my one girl was the sweetest and calmest thing. I was so upset the day the bobcat got her. I haven't tried Wheaten Ameraucana's.
