First Egg Countdown

The only way it could be from anything but one of the little pullets is if one of the old girls has learned to walk through walls.

Week and a half ago I asked about age, this morning I found an extra egg! The egg was on the opposite side of the coop from the nesting boxes, and it was a mini, but I'm pretty sure it came from my goldies :) So fun! This is the first time ever for me having a new pullet lay an egg, my other hens I got at about 18 months old.

The 2 eggs I picked up this morning, my regular size from a RIR and my mini

It looks a lot smaller once I put it in the tray, but hey it's an egg. What is the regular size egg for a gold sexlink anyway? :)
Thanks for letting me share my excitement!

that looks like a first egg from a gsl, after a week they get LARGE then stay steady with a few dbls in the mix but jumbo after a while

What's the earliest anyone's heard of a hen laying? I got this from a pullet who is only 5-6 WEEKS OLD and isn't even fully feathered:

She's a Production Red from Tractor Supply, bought April 4 from a batch they got in around April 2. I've named her Sweet Tater, both for her coloring and the shape of her pitiful little egg, but I'm sure she'll figure out what shape to make them eventually.
Hey, you might be able to get into the guinness book of world records!

Wed, we got 4 eggs. 3 barreds and 1 EE. Thurs, we got 5. 2 EE (our second EE's first egg) , 2 Barred, and 1 SF. Today was interesting. I herd the girls hollering all over the place and my son came in and sait he found one of the SF in a brooder cage that nobody has been in, in 3 weekd. He brought me a large egg. Then the dog dropped an egg right in front of me. I think a confused girl layed infront of the bbq again. Then my daughter brought me a egg from the nest boxes. this was all in a matter of 10 min before we left for school. Also yesterday my husband pointed out a yolk and egg whites just sitting in the middle of the yard. no soft shell to be seen.

At least now I think all of our oldest girls have layed at least once!

your on your way ...youll be burried in eggs soon!! lol....now i just went down to throw some scratch and I witnessed one lay a soft shell...(egg abortion??) lol she seems very fine, and she laid an egg this am??? Maybe the heat? were in ct and it got up to 85 today and sunny, past week its been in the low 60s and rain??

One of the EE camping in the nest box. The SF was really upset again today and I tryed to put her in time out again but she didn't seem to calm down like she did last time. I was watching her after her time out and I think she wanted the box that the EE was in. she ended up laying her egg on the ground in the coop, but that's closer than last time. So far 5 eggs today! I am waiting to see if the EE that is camping is going to lay an egg.

Ha Ha egg abortion!? I think the shot of 80's we had is what made my hens start to lay. All your lady's have started laying right? You should start to get more eggs more consistantly from here on out. How fun! Do you have any younger hens?
