First Egg Countdown

Got my first egg today.  I have 10 hens and just one egg this morning.  They are exactly 18 weeks old today.

Others may be happy for you, but I'm darn jealous! 18 weeks only! Mine are nearly 28 weeks and not so much as an egg shaped bowel movement outta them. Grr.

Hat breed are your girls?

Just found some eggs in the monkey grass. Still fresh. I am almost positive they are my Naked Necks eggs. I have never seen her in the nests. I don't think she knows how to go up the ramp to the nest boxes and because she has the double gene for naked neckeness, she doesn't really have enough feathers to fly up to the nests. Going out of town..when I get back, I will have to make a lower nest for her!

My Buff Orpingtons are 19 weeks old this week hopefully some eggs soon! :fl

Still no eggs :-( and still digging everything out of the nest boxes. Guess I'll just leave the nest boxes bare until they start laying.

I've got 2 RIR and gold sexlinks that were 18 weeks on Wedensday and still nothing. Their combs and wattles are bright red and the other morning they had kicked all of the straw out of their nesting boxes so maybe they were investigating. I tried to keep them in their run for a few days, instead of letting them free range, to see if they were laying and just doing it somewhere around the yard, and nope...nothing.
I've also got 2 ameracaunas that are about 2 weeks younger who don't look even close to starting to lay.
I'm getting so tired of buying eggs. A family of 7 goes through a lot of eggs. lol

I bought these two last week, it seems to me like a orpington(in front) buff cross breed with maybe golden nugget and the other with a production(at back). They are large en size as you can see comparison to the rooster. But can hear on their sound and on their feet they are still relatively young, maybe 19 to 22 weeks. Their combs is not close to red, lets see what happen.
