Mine lay every day, rain or shine. Every so often someone takes a day off, but I'm okay with giving them a break

I bought oyster shells a week ago but still nothing yet. My buff Orpington's is 20 1/2 wks old and the other 5 are 17 1/2 wks old. I missed calculating their age, was thinking they were older. Blonde moment I guess.

Will hens lay when it's raining?

Yes. Chickens deal with cold far better than they do with heat.

Older hens will start to molt this time of year (already have a few here and egg production is way down) but they molt on decreased daylight hours, not the weather.

Thanks Happy Chooks -- that's what I'm thinking too. Jersey Girl, my Delaware seem to be getting quite vocal, too! She's always talking to me!

Morwenna laid her second egg today. She took all day preparing and calling to steve and running to the coop with him right behind her, and when I went out she had laid it and steve was lying on it, keeping it warm. He's gonna get told off when he tells her he lost it!
