Yeah, we had to get rid of our crowing roosters also. Too dang noisey. No roosters around won't change how they lay eggs.hi,
I am super new at this but I have a question that I am sure will be and has been asked a couple times. (I don't know there ages but I seem to be under the impression that I have a 2 bantams they look young, then two white youmg what seem to be either boiler/or some bantams/Plymouth white rock. then I have a young bantam rooster why is flexing his vocals lately, some mixed Japanese hen who lays well and awhat seems to be a Plymouth white rock rooster( that's why I think that the two young white ones are related).
now for my question about my eggs... she has laid one a day for six days quite small yesterday she didn't lay but she seems to be singing.. everyday till then she laid afternoon and about a hour and a half later everyday. how does she time it our rather will be it always be in the day and every 25-26 hrs
will send a pic when she lays.
I had to proceess my other rooster he was crowing all night can this change they laying times or effect her in anyway.... they where close
thanks

Sooo I got an egg today(yay!!!!!!!!!) but I don't know who laid it it's brown and light spotted I know it's not my EE so it's either my RIR or BSL
Welcome. More should begin laying in the next few weeks. I know it's hard to wait, but it's better on their bodies if they begin laying later. Early laying can lead to laying issues later on in their life.Hi, I am pretty new to this website. I received week old chickens for Mother's Day this year. I have a Jersey giant, two Ameraucanas, one French Cuckoo Maran, and a Buff Orpington crossed with a jungle fowl. In addition, I have added a lavender Orpington and a Cream Legbar-maybe...she looks more like Welsummer to me. So far, only Glados, the maran has started laying. So far she lays approximately 1 egg a day. What are the expectations for the other chickens? How long will it take the rest of the flock to catch up? I have been enjoying getting eggs from my one good girl but I am eagerly awaiting more eggs. For egg prediction purposes, it is October in Southern California. They have a coop and they free range our half acre. Also, if I post a picture of the chicken that I am unsure of, can someone help me identify what kind of chicken she actually is? Thanks!
Holly
Congrats!I got my first egg on monday, I thought it was quite large for a pullet egg, it was a double yolker, Tuesday I got 2 perfect little pullet eggs, they don't even fit in the tray they are so small, today, I ate them, yum yum. When I went out today, I had 2 more perfect pullet eggs and another very large one, this one appears to have a seam all the way around the middle, I am 99% sure this will be a double yolk as well. Is it likely the same girl who laid the two big eggs? or two different ones? I have 12 brown egg layers, who are 17 weeks tomorrow. (I also have 11 white leghorns, the same age, but no white eggs yet)
Awwwww, your daughter is adorable. Polka Dot is cute too.
She looks to be a welsummer.
If EE, RIR, and BSL are the only choices, then it's likely the RIR.
Every hen is different, but generally it does take about 25 hours to make an egg. So it will get later and later, then she will skip a day, then start back up the following morning.hi,

Nice egg!
Congrats! 15 weeks is really young, wow!Found my first egg yesterday, BUT...it was laid overnight in the poop box and it was broken and shelless with no yolk. Looked like just a membrane with some egg white. I know it was one of my red stars that laid it and they are only 15 weeks old. A lot of my red stars are getting ready to lay. I put out the layer pellets and some oyster shell. Hoping I see an actual egg today instead of just a membrane thing. One of my red stars was in the nest box when I went to work, but when I came home at lunch and checked, there was no egg![]()
