Woo, hoo! First egg EVER from our little flock. The only one that even looked close to laying was one of the Barred Rocks, so I'm pretty sure she's the responsible party.
We got her at 1 day old, so she would have hatched May 7, which makes her 20.5 weeks old -- quite the early-maturing girl. In the last days and weeks, she's been making a lot more noise than the others, has very bright red wattles and comb, and has been checking out the nest box. She looks a lot like the picture you posted, Jaxia.
The egg was small and oblong (that store-bought egg in the bottom picture is an Extra Large, btw), and it had a really well-formed hard shell. I even had to crack it a couple of times when I went to open it up. I guess the calcium in that layer feed is doing the job. Here's the result.
Can you tell I am proud of her?
