My two Red Sex links have started squatting..actually, about a week ago. Now one of them squats almost every time I pick her up.

to all that are getting there first eggs, I am going to be waiting for a bit more. My RIR or NH are just starting to get a bit pink and as for singing and the squatting the goddess only knows when that will happen. I have no idea how old they are but I am guessing around 13 to 15 weeks.

Well... We got OUR FIRST EGG!!

. Do you think they will lay eventually start laying in their boxes? There is fake eggs in there to encourage them, but they laid this one in their run. We aren't sure who laid it though. It was ethier a dark brahma, black australorp, or a Production red. All of them are 18 weeks old. How can you guys tell? I looked at all their vents and their all moist.

It almost looks pinkish. Will it darken as they get older?

Wow, so many new people waiting!

Welcome to the thread Auscal, Mtnviewfarms, Chickster Jo, and Sunny & the 5 egg layers, and Chickenlickin8!

to Tuckat! I'm so happy you found this thread so soon!

Sunny & the 5 Egg Layers, when I looked at your pics, I would have sworn that Sunny would have gone first, but Production Reds tend to lay darker colored eggs. Now I'm scratching my head over it, because your Dark Brahma would be the most likely to lay a really light egg, but she looks the least close to laying! Lol your girls are diabolical.

Chickster Jo, I would say that you are due for eggs within the next 2 weeks. I'm waiting for my EE to start squatting, but she's a standoffish primadonna, so I'll probably have no warning whatsoever. In fact, she'll probably snub me further by laying brown eggs.

Yay what fun to see everyone waiting for/getting their first eggs!

I believe it was my black australorp, Scramble. She is SO LOUD! I was in my garden today and all I could here was her chatting! Do you think maybe she could have laid it? Did I mention she was loud?! LOL!

I just love this thread and seeing the pics of all the new eggs! Congrats to everyone that have been the beneficiary of that delicious first egg!

Alas, my red and black barred rare breed, Layanoegga, are holding true to their name and, while several are talking, squawking, and squatting, that first egg remains an elusive ovoid.

For those not familiar with this rare breed, they look very similar to RIR and BR, but without the breakfast food feature.

Signed,

Endlessly Egglessi
