They have been mating an AWFUL lot but they havent laid yet.. Thinking they dont want to lay when they live in the coop with the chickens.. Not sure if ducks are the same as chickens and go broody.. Im hoping she will sit on them and hatch them when she does start laying. I got them in April with my chickens from TSC

I want to say they are almost 5 months.. But not sure since we bought them from TSC when they were just wee little ducklings

But I like to say around 5 months. Its the first time for me to ever own ducks so

I think it depends on the hen when she wants to lay really lol

different breeds sizes and shapes all lay when they want to

mine are 5 months old and just now starting to get redder and redder combs

Our barred rocks are nineteen weeks old. Flora looks gorgeous with her red wattles and comb. Greta is red, but wattles are small. She may be squatting, but it's not standard like I've read on the forum. Ruthie, well Ruthie is an odd bird. She's not even thinking red and has a tiny wattle. We put a plastic egg in the laying box when we changed the straw Saturday. I sang the egg song for them today and they looked at me like I'm crazy. Any thoughts on when they might lay? I'm going out of the country on Sept. 9, will be gone 3 1/2 weeks. Any chance they will lay before I leave? Bok?

My girls are on trip L duty (mixed flock food) which means no calcium. They free range from sun up to sun down. They have oyster shell available but never touch it! Apparently their needs are met free ranging because Heidi's shells have been absolutely perfect! I doubt you messed anything up.

Today Heidi laid her 3rd egg! I am thrilled!! It was a .2 oz bigger than the first two. LOL Turkey (my cuckoo marans) is getting redder in face, almost like Heidi but I think marans are later layers and she's only 20 weeks. With Heidi putting out eggs now, I am happy and can wait patiently for the other girls to start.

I think the are so awesome too. I love just outside and watching them. I am patiently waiting for my first egg. Her comb is getting bright red I hope that is a sign that she will be laying soon.
