IT'S HERE, IT'S HERE!!! The first egg has arrived and it's GREEN!

This is the lucky bird (not the one I would have guessed from comb growth/color but she IS the one that squatted when I walked up the other day):

My EE lays eggs between 2.0 oz and 2.10 oz. pretty much every time. But she's not nearly as pretty as yours! Wanna trade???

Congrats congrats! That is a pretty green egg!! My EE lays eggs in exactly the same shade, and one of my co-workers religiously buys from me because he says his little girl won't eat any other color now that she's had one.

One of my 30 week freeloading barnevelders has been singing the egg song several times today, walking around bawking, and has been in and out of the nest numerous times! C'mon lets see an egg!

I THINK I got a first egg from one of my partridge rocks, but I'm not sure. I'm new to this so forgive the silly question, BUT...

I collected an egg that is quite a bit darker than my dom eggs, but larger than the one that I collected from the dom that's been laying the longest. These PR's are big, would their first egg be bigger and browner than my Dominique's? Eggs can't get darker, can they?

They can change shade, but don't usually get drastically different in color. The dark egg layers can change quite a bit, as their ink jets get used to the paint process.

Nope, nothing from the barnevelders yet. They are a very slow maturing breed (I just didn't realize how slow - sheesh!) but they make up for it in the mothering area. They are great broodies.

No way, not trading Hazel(nut)! She laid a twin to yesterday's egg today. If she's an everyday pullet, she's going to be an awesome hen!
