First Egg Countdown

At 28 weeks, both my olive egger and my BR started today.

The olive egg is a really dark, army green - the picture makes it look lighter than it is.

Thanks guys. I really LOVE the colorful Easter basket from all the different breeds I have. Plus these girls are really helping out now that most of my flock is in molt.

My EE laid her first egg today at 27 weeks!!! I am SO excited to see that it's a beautiful green egg!!

Now 3 of my 4 chickies have laid eggs however my cuckoo marans hasn't laid in 3 weeks (probably due to shorter days, but still!)! My black australorp is 26 weeks now so any day.......

Grats Mommato5! That's a really pretty egg! Is the coloration in the photo spot-on? I'd call that olive if so.

Yeah, the photo is pretty close! I was wondering if it was olive. Her second egg was more blue, though! I was reading about egg color and I guess she must lay blue eggs and the outside color depends on how much brown gets sprayed on just before laying. Interesting stuff! She just laid her 3rd egg but I haven't looked yet.....Ok, it's the dark green/olive color again! She is going to be a fun one to get eggs from!!

Yeah my EE is a real hoot. Her first egg was a really pastel mint green, but she changed the tone a bit since then to be less pastel (I guess more brown on the eggs.)

Just to spice things up, she likes to lay rough-shelled eggs too on ocassion.

Green eggs are blue eggs with brown spray paint on top. If you look inside the shell, it will be blue. If her body skipped the paint process, then you get blue eggs.

Congrats on the eggs!!!! Nice color too.

Great to see all the beautiful eggs here! It's been a while since I posted, and seems like eons since our first egg in September. Yesterday we got 15 eggs! from 18 hens! I am so proud of them!
